Wow.

Great deal for New England. If Revis is healthy, he's still the best corner in the game.

I can't imagine there weren't a ton of teams willing to give him way more money than that. He obviously wanted to go there and it's tough to do anything about that.

Cobb and Jordy are going to make some big time money. I fully expect we will sign them during the summer and use as much 2014 cap space on them as we can.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Interesting situation with Saffold. Raiders didn't like the way his shoulder looked in the physical, so no contract with them and he's back with STL.

Decker to the Jets. Could be meaningful for James Jones.

“@AdamSchefter: Jets are giving former Broncos WR Eric Decker a 5-year, $36.25M deal, including $15M gtd, per source.”

Ugh, feel bad for Decker. Though he may fit right in with that circus since he's got a reality show of his own right now.

Really starting to hope we get James Jones for cheap, that would be as big as signing some defensive free agent, imo.

So Nelson's got to be looking for 5 45ish?

He also may have simply wanted to go somewhere that he knows he'll win a lot of games and have a decent shot at a Super Bowl berth given how weak the AFC East is and the AFC is overall. Revis has made a lot of cash so far in his career and adds 12 million more to his bank account with this deal.

Then after this year he could end up signing another deal with New England or take a cash grab elsewhere, but if i was him i could see a desire to win now being a high priority since his bank account should already be plenty flush enough to live in total luxury the rest of his life.

That was a terrible deal anyway. I'm not sure what Reggie McKenzie is thinking.

They had to spend a ton of money just to get up to the minimum.

That's the worst excuse that any GM can give. If you're going to spend money in FA, there's no reason why you can't spend it on good players and do so in a wise fashion. It's not like they didn't have solid guys on their own roster to re-sign (Lamarr Houston). Plus, if this is anything like the NBA, if he doesn't reach the salary floor, he'd just redistribute the gap among the players on his roster. I'd much rather do that than massively overpay someone who hasn't shown the ability to get the job done.

As Barnwell said:

Oakland’s signing of Saffold was the most curious of all. To be clear, by curious, I mean something not very far from mind-boggling and impossible to understand. He played left tackle for the Rams from 2010 to 2012 before the team signed Jake Long, moving a frustrated Saffold to right tackle and then, eventually, to right guard, where he played well during a brief stint to end 2013. It wasn’t clear what position Saffold would play for his new team after free agency, but the amount of money the Raiders gave him would seem to suggest he would suit up at left tackle, widely regarded as the most important position on the line. The only problem? One report suggests that Saffold will play guard for the Raiders in 2014. That seems ludicrous, but Oakland did spend $25 million to lock up the aforementioned Howard from the Jets, who they might consider moving from right tackle to the left side. If that’s true, the Raiders just gave Saffold $21 million guaranteed — the third-largest total for a guard in league history — based on a six-game sample to end the 2013 season. But hey, it’s the Raiders, they probably deserve the benefit of the dou— oh, wait, it hasn’t looked like the Raiders have had any idea what they’re doing and they don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt? Oh well.

They were 40-50 million under the floor when the offseason started. There are mixed feelings on Lamarr Houston.

I don't know what the rule is on the salary floor with redistributing cash but the reason it's not like the NBA is that tanking is much less assured/desired.

I'm speaking a bit outside of my knowledge here but maybe Saffold won the lottery so to speak by being the guy that Oakland overpaid up-front as what they thought might be a solid guard while they continue to build through the draft.

Philly looks like they'll be pretty good this year. I'm not totally sold on Foles yet, I think he got lucky at times last year--like against the Packers. But overall the team is pretty good, just 2 years removed from that bad FA spending spree.

Sherman is picking a fight with every NFL player he can find on twitter. Can't help but think he's going to have a down year next year. Every single team and player is going to look to beat him any chance they can. It will definitely be interesting to follow.
