Besides the fact we have Dragic, they were hovering around the 6 or 7 seed for most of the year until dropping out and finishing 9th in the west. But at the same time, they had loads of assets, young players and picks, and were able to use them to get that star.
Of course then they were able to get the second star and now are a pretty serious contender.
Hopefully we can take a similar path.
I don't see a team out there that doesn't have enough cap space to sign a third max onto his second contract while also wanting to stay under the tax, so it is not exactly the same, but the Love situation his pretty similar to the Howard situation. And we arguably also got are "Harden" in Bledsoe. He may not be quite the caliber of player, but he basically was more of a sixth man, that came over and put us in the mix for a 7 seed like Harden did with the Thunder last year.
So in that case, maybe we are also kind of like Houston was last year, before they were able to pry Howard away during free agency when he became a free agent the following summer and was ready to leave.

There's nobody like Dwight who can improve a team's defense tremendously, rebound at an elite level and play well in the low post on offense out there though.
And what we need right now is a clone of Dwight, a guy who can improve the rebounding & defense of this team drastically.

Well, there is the SLIGHT chance we win the lottery or get the 2nd pick and draft Embiid.

Yea but we are the Suns and I can't remember the last time luck fell in our favor in the draft.

Well maybe it's about damn time we deserved it!

mcdo will soon make a Big Boy Decision after the end of this season if the suns fail to qualify for the playoffs: build on what this team has accomplished, or realize that this is not a championship team and blow it up again.

We never built a team to begin with lmao.
This year was suppose to be fire sale hoard draft picks and move on.
It's now became a above 500 team but his plans haven't changed he proved that at deadline.
Most of these guys probably won't be suns by next trade deadline.
If the suns could flip green for a first this summer I think McD will take it.
He's not a plan of longterm future.
ALOT of suns fan will moan even bringing it up but I personally don't think dragic was ever part of the long term future when McD took office. He got "his guy" in Bledsoe. Now dragic has flexed his wings and has emerged as a allstar PG. I could see him selling high on him even if dragic is going to be peaking for the next 3-5 years. If we have possibly two allstar PGs I can see dragic being the asset to get the suns a longterm big.
I want dragic to stay a sun because I'm a fan of his game.
Don't bash I'm just trying to discuss McD vision from the start and he hasn't shown any signs of changing

I agree with all of this, and I think it's highly likely Dragic will be traded. Let's be honest here and throw out the homerism, if Goran Dragic is the best player on your team you're not going to be very good. Maybe a fringe playoff contender but never a true contender. I could see McD trading Dragic if it nets us a superstar, and I can see Minnesota interested in trading Love for a package centered around Dragic, Len and a few picks.
Dedicating a combined $24m to Bledsoe and Love still leaves you with around $40m to add a true 3rd star and other quality starter and transform this team from a 9th seed to a contender. I'd really like DeAndre Jordan here; he's friends with Bledsoe, he's athletic, a monster rebounder, a good defender, but no way the Clips let him go. If we were to get a guy like Love we need a major rim protecter at Center and need a knockdown 3 pointer shooter at the 2.

dragic is better than kevin love, and i'm not being a homer. kevin love has a better team than the suns this year but he's still a loser, from the outside looking in. the suns still have a chance of making the playoffs, minny--zero.
i've said this before on phxsuns.net.--love is overrated. just like rondo is overrated.

it's too bad because i kinda supported mcdo at the beginning with his plan. but it is safe to say that this is the worst tanking job in nba history.
if you're gonna tank, TANK NOW, not next year!
green, frye and pj tucker wont get anything close to a first rounder.
unless the suns make the playoffs this year or mcdo reboots and blows up the suns again next year, i predict he wont last as GM next season.

I see what your saying but unlike min or even the suns we would have BOTH consistent scoring from the PG and PF nightly and we would possibly have room to add one more 3rd tier guy

Come on, Dragic and Love are on whole different levels and I'm saying this as someone who isn't crazy about Love. The Wolves lack the coaching and chemistry we do. Rubio is also horrible, their bench is weak and thier only players of use, Martin and Pek, are always injured. Love is in a bad situation in Minnesota.

I'm not saying Dragic is as good as Love but I don't think Love's capable of being the #1 player on a contender either.
