Spurs Accept. I hate giving up a first round pick but I'm hoping I finish top 8 so I can get the pick back and I'm hoping to move Green for a pick or two. "
Why would this pick carry over without wording in the trade? Plenty of picks simply expire once protections expire. I just spent the last 12 hours turning down trades based on the assumption I was getting an unprotected 2015 1st from SA and now I'd have no time/opportunity to negotiate otherwise. The 2015 pick has already been falsely dealt from TOR, would like a ruling from Commish.
Please show me the "plenty" of IRL trades where a team accepts a deal for a 1st round pick with protections for only one year which completely expires the next year. I bet there has never been such a deal in the history of hte NBA. So I now I lose a pick simply because a GM who quit the game wasnt thorough(or more likely simply didnt understand he needed to specify the protections going forward)
This ruling completely ignored intent and common sense and punishes me who wasnt involved in any mistake. I will stand by the ruling because I signed the contract but this is arbitrary and totally unfair to the spirit of the game.
