Part of me feels like we aren't going to get it just because we're so close and I want it and I'm just assuming that we're going to be disappointed. Then again it's about time things start going this franchise's way, so maybe this will be the start. I mean how amazing would it be if the Pistons helped us get the best possible pick we could from them this year.

I am not getting my hopes up, they are going to realize they are not going to make the playoffs or get to far behind and tank it out. they are closer to keep the pick than they are to the playoffs

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
Just for kicks, let's also track Portland to see what it's going to take for their pick to fall to the lottery or at least drop a couple spots in the draft. Maybe the Bobcats will get some divine providence and net two lottery picks this season.
Right now Phoenix is on the outside looking in on the playoff race, and their record is 36-28. Portland's record is 42-23, so Phoenix is about six games back. Aldridge is out for a little while so maybe Portland will drop a few games.
Portland's remaining looks like this:
@ New Orleans
vs Golden State
vs Milwaukee
vs Washington
@ Charlotte
@ Miami
@ Orlando
@ Atlanta
@ Chicago
vs Memphis
@ L.A. Lakers
vs Phoenix
vs New Orleans
vs Sacramento
@ Utah
vs Golden State
vs L.A. Clippers
They have a pretty rough away schedule with six away games in a row coming up, and Miami - Orlando, Atlanta - Chicago, and Memphis - LAL are all back to back games.
They also play at least 8 playoffs teams, and 2 others who are likely to be still fighting to make the playoffs.

I don't think the players or the coach will tank, they have to many ego's (namely Smith and Jennings) to tank....also i think Rasheed Wallace might kill someone if they were to tank

Put me at 60%. There's a clear bottom 8 and Detroit is #9
Cleveland over-taking Detroit is starting to look more realistic with each day. Those two games they'll play each other will be crucial.

The only thing that gives me hope about Detroit not tanking it that if they don't turn things around by the end of the year it will almost certainly mean the end of Joe Dumars. He may be gone either way but collapsing at the end of the year will only make it more certain.

How wild would it be for Detroit to finish up in the 8th spot only to have someone jump over them on lottery night and end up giving us the 9th pick. Stranger things have happened.

They would totally deserve it. And the Blazers deserve to fall into the lottery which will never ever happen...but they deserve it.

Looking at this site it would appear that if the draft order was as it is right now, 11 of the first 30 picks in the draft would change hands.
That's pretty amaze-balls.

They so totally deserve it. Would suit them right for their high-minded, uppity, playoff aspirations.

Funny you say that. Using the link fats posted, I ran a mock lotto and this happened the 1st time. New York jumped Detroit and we get the 9th pick.

Boston gets #1
New York jumps from #11 to #2, conveying the 2nd pick to Denver, and the tank frontrunners, Milwaukee and Philly get 4th and 5th.
The lulz if this occured.

for robbing us in the Wallace trade and then flipping him for the pick we could/should/would have used on Drummond?

If we lose both our pick and the Detroit pick, and we get humiliated in the playoffs, the rookie class next year looks really good...

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
I like to think the Pistons pick is not lost, only temporarily misplaced.
It will be interesting to see if there is a target Cho plans to acquire by trading into this draft. There are several teams with multiple first round picks.

Re: Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread
Suppose Det ends up keeping the 8th pick this year. If we were to dangle their 2015 pick, what could we get out of it as far as drafting position in 2014s draft. Would a team with a couple of mid round picks (like the Bulls for example) give one or both of them up for a chance to.hit the jackpot next year? Is that something we would even consider? Anybody think we could do any better than that draft position wise?
