I'd think NY and Brooklyn would be all over it, they could afford to take that risk considering they don't have any other way to improve. I wouldn't touch Joe Johnson's contract but Amare expires after next season so that's cap relief for 2015 and Love.

I know their history says otherwise, but I can't imagine even they'd be that stupid. Wrong side of 35, coming off a second straight major injury...I know it's Kobe, but this Kobe is not that Kobe. Plus, for $50 million? You'd almost have to be brain dead to view that as an upgrade.

At any rate, it's a moot point as L.A. would never have extended him if they were considering trading him. I wouldn't mind seeing it happen, from a strictly practical purpose. But it's not happening.

don't underestimate an owner's desire to sell tickets for a higher price tag.

"Come watch Kobe Bryant drag himself up and down the court at ages 36 and 37!"

That'd make a hell of a marketing campaign.

Kobe won't play if it's not at an elite level. I wouldn't stress about it.

They either pay $23 million to Amare or pay it to Kobe, at least Kobe's contract is insured. If they sign Melo they really don't have any other way to make a move so I'd think Phil would roll the dice on Kobe.

A good point, but do you honestly see us trading Kobe? Why bother giving him an extension in the first place? Maybe the injury changes things, but I'd be stunned if this happened.

He still has his no trade clause, right?
Of course we aren't trading Kobe...

Only way it happens is if he demands a trade... And then he can dictate where he goes...

We'd end up with Amare only... If we were lucky...

Best not to think of such things.

I wouldn't want to trade him but at the same time if he keeps pressuring the FO to spend money on pseudo contention or airing dirty laundry in public and making free agents think that this franchise is some toxic infighting hell hole I'd be much happier seeing his back than damage us long term.

Well, yeah, if I had my choice I'd move him too. Never would have signed him to the extension in the first place. I'm just asking, do you honestly see this front office moving him?

No. I just don't see them doing anything drastic. That's not their MO.

He can't dictate where he goes. Even if he demands a trade and the FO wants to trade him they would still have a very hard time to get anyone to take on that contract. Honestly wish we had just let him walk if this was the type of contract he wanted, but whatever, we're stuck with him for two more years and i'm just crossing my fingers he doesn't decide to come back again after the contract ends.

God I want to lock this thread. People talking about trading a guy with a no trade clause, talking out their trade butts, and generally speculating past reasonability... and yet I think that is why we (RealGM) exists to some degree, so game on I guess...

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Lakers at least should throw in a couple of unprotected 1st rounders, it's only fair.

i understand where slava is coming from, if we were gonna trade kobe at all, it would be to tank for that top 5 pick. if were trading kobe were not gonna get any players of actual real value back, and NY would be the only team desperate enough to trade for him + a team that kobe would agree to play for with melo/phil.

it will never, ever happen though.

Yes, to the Clippers, or no... to Boston. Or no. Yeah, just no.
