He turns 27 in June and this will be his 7th season meaning his rookie year he was 20 which isn't all that hard to do coming out after your junior year of college.

Actually really like the signing. Was hoping we could bring in 1 more defensive lineman to allow ourselves to draft for need (while still getting quality) in the first couple of rounds of the draft. Would have preferred Melton, but I don't think we had the money to get Melton instead.

They are reporting that it is a 1 year deal.

This seems like bad news for Johnny Jolly and Ryan Pickett.

I was doubtful Jolly was in the mix due to his injury.

How many D-linemen are sure things this season?

Mike Daniels
BJ Raji
Datone Jones
Josh Boyd
Jerel Worthy

They can easily write off Neal and Peppers as hybrid LB/DE bodies if they wanted to. I know that they have some plan to play Peppers as some sort of hybrid specialist. I think that they could bring back Jolly if they thought he could play.

I figured Pickett was gone regardless of what happened during FA, Jolly I had high hopes to bring back. Maybe we still can?

Peppers, Raji, Datone, Daniels, Worthy, Boyd, Guion, Jolly. Is 8 DL too many? And did I miss anyone else?

Guion's contract is a one-year deal, which means the Packers could have multiple players up front working on one-year contracts. Raji signed at one-year, $4 million and Peppers could end up staying in Green Bay one season.

Kleine said Guion had offers for more money elsewhere but chose Green Bay.

"It gives him a chance to get back this year, get healthy and get another bite at the apple with hopefully a great season," Kleine said. "Are they going to use him as a 5 technique? Obviously B.J., traditionally, would probably be more of a nose. Troy's a guy where they'll have a little bit of versatility where he can be a 5, he can be a nose. If they go even fronts and stuff, he has experience in the nose and being a 3 shade as well.

"So I think he gives them some versatility along the defensive line."

I guess I don't really see a spot for Jolly unless there are some injuries(always possible) or we decide to completely forgo picking a DL in the first two days of the draft.

I think in this roster crunch stuff we're assuming that Guion will make the team, and I don't see that as being given.

Packers and Pickett's agent are still talking as of last weekend so maybe he'll be back.

I like that even more. I would love for our defensive line to be talented enough that we could cut Guion or Worthy.

Doubt Guion makes the team. Just another Hargrove. Won't ever make any impact.

your totally right. This is the type of contract where a roster spot isn't guaranteed. I like having competition and making guys like Boyd worthy and guion play well to make it. Plus I feel like it's inevitable one of the dlineman gets hurt in preseason/camp.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

I'm guessing he picked GB over some of the other teams offering a little more because he probably views our DL situation as weak and thinks he has a better chance to make the team. He also may think he is better suited for a 3-4.

He's still young and he is basically the prototype size for the position. Who knows, maybe he'll be a good rotational player.

Pack has opened the past couple seasons w/ 6 DL but finished with 8 last year. I figure counting Peppers and Neal as hybrids. We'll enter season with 6 DL - Daniels, Raji, Jones, Boyd, Rookie and 1 of jolly, guion, worthy, pickett.
JOlly wins that easily if he's healthy.

Yup. You bring in as many guys as you can and let the best rise to the top.

Return to Green Bay Packers
