Ben Wallace sentenced to 1 year in prison

Post#1 » by MotownMadness » Tue Mar 18, 2014 11:17 pm

"Former Virginia Union University and NBA star Ben Wallace pleaded no contest in court Tuesday to leaving the scene of an accident in Henrico last month.

Wallace’s Cadillac Escalade smashed through a fence and hit a tree early February 8 near Gaskins Road at Peppertree Drive. When officers arrived, the vehicle was empty. An investigation led detectives to Wallace who was charged Tuesday and entered his guilty plea.

Wallace was sentenced to a year in prison, with all but two days suspended, according to online court records. He was also ordered to pay $611 in court fines and costs.

He was booked into the Henrico West jail Tuesday afternoon according to online records and is expected to be released Wednesday".

Damn... I posted an article when this happened and it was rumored to be him. That's pretty crazy.
I can't believe he's doing stupid stuff like this.

Ben abandoned his vehicle?? He probably got off light with a suspended sentence, as opposed to whatever they would have gotten him for had he not fled the scene.

Hopefully this is an eye opener, I hate it when our sports stars get in trouble with the law, retired or not.

Supposedly he was never a good/nice dude - he could just play basketball really well and the local press covered for him/wouldn't report negative things.

This incident is your evidence or is there actually something else you have to back your statement?

It's just two days..was going to say a year for hitting a tree is a pretty damn stiff penalty.Unless it was the Ticket Oak.

Hasn't he had a few DUIs before? This sounds like a similar thing; Might have been driving drunk, crashed, panicked that he'd get caught DUI again and ran.

I mean, you don't usually crash through a fence when sober (with no other vehicles involved), and you don't usually run from the scene of an accident unless you've got something to hide. If it was genuinely an accident where he wasn't under the influence, surely you just own it and stick around. Very lucky to get off as lightly as he did.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

He's been arrested multiple times now. He got off easy on the last charges too - probation for a DUI and weapons charge. He needs to get his act/drinking together before he hurts someone.

None of us know him to know if he is "nice" or not, but he's running into a lot of the problems that many ex-athletes do. He's not millions of bucks and nothing but free time. That's a combination that often ends badly.

The ex-Detroit Pistons tough guy had appeared in court Tuesday wheer he plead no contest to leaving the scene of a crash in Henrico County, VA on February 8th.

According to police, a vehicle registered to Wallace crashed through a fence outside of a home on a busy stretch of road and then fled the scene ... leaving his SUV unattended at the home.

During the court hearing, Wallace was sentenced to one year behind bars ... but the judge will only require him to serve two days.

What a bum since he was likely driving under influence due to past precedence. How often does anyone run away after crashing into a fence/tree when sober? DUIs are serious business and hope he doesn't continue to trot down this path.

He's lucky nobody was harmed.

Right, fleeing in this situation was definitely the correct move, he would have had a much worse time of it at the scene. I know it sounds silly, but cooperating with the police and being the good citizen especially in DUI/drug related stuff does not help you, best to lie/deny until the end, anything you say will be used against you and those officers promising you that being honest will help you, will not be there to help you in court.

That's not silly, you're speaking the truth. Preach!

It's unfortunate that some posters here are trying to judge Wallace from his past. Hopefully Wallace takes it easy and finds peace.
