Packers might be interested in Devin Hester

Wouldn't mind getting him for cheap and getting Cobb and Hyde out of that role

I wouldn't mind him if he is very cheap and we use him as just an emergency receiver and return specialist.

Given how Hyde performed, it seems very unlikely to me that we'd use a roster spot on a specialist like this, even though Hester is obviously a better returner. I'd be fine with it, though. This is a position you know will touch the ball ~4 times a game, after all. Seems more important than a 9th LB or 11th DB.

Would rather have DeSean Jackson for a third round pick.

Absolutely not.

His cap hits are 9 million, 12.75 million, 12 million and 10.5 million. No way that I am taking that on with Nelson, Cobb and Boykin coming up as free agents next season. Despite Jackson being a very good player, I'm not sure I'd give up any pick for him just because of how much money he makes and our current WR situation.

Newz beat me to it, sure in Madden world it sounds good, but in the real world where you really have to worry about a salary cap bringing in Jackson makes no sense whereas Hester may be able to be had for very cheap.

You can take 2m off of each of those figures as the Eagles would have to eat his signing bonus. Still no, though. Especially not for a 3rd round pick.

No thanks, Hester is incredibly overrated. We may be able to get him for very cheap but the reality is that his reputation greatly exceeds his actual production at this point.

He hasn't been an "elite" returner for years and is on the wrong side of 30 now. I highly doubt Ted wastes a roster spot on a guy who only returns kicks.

He averaged almost 28 yards a kick return last year and had a punt return for a TD. Not saying he's who he used to be, but he's still pretty good.

I would only want him on a two year deal and on the cheap. But he could still be valuable and prevents guys like Cobb/Hyde from having to do the job.

What the heck lol. Didn't Jackson get over paid. Also we need to pay our two stud Wrs. We don't need anything on offense besides a TE and C.

I'd take Hester as a kick/punt returner. No doubt. But not at $4 million a year.

That article cites no evidence that the team is actively looking at Hester. I'm guessing that Demovsky is just spitballing.

Imagine if (when) Nelson or Cobb go down for a few games and they have to rely on Hester running routes.

True, but the year before that (2012) he averaged a very pedestrian 8.3 yards per punt return. And he's only had one kick return TD since 2008. He's inconsistent on punts and I prefer a guy who just takes what the return coverage dictates and doesn't try for the "home run" play every time. Unless we move Hyde to full-time starting safety, I don't see why we wouldn't let him handle punts next year anyways, his stats were nearly identical to Hester's in that category.

I agree that he'd be an upgrade over whoever we throw back on KR duty, and I don't want Cobb taking any more unnecessary hits, but I think you can find some street FA or undrafted rookie to fill the void for an even cheaper price, as well as more upside and the ability to play both sides on special teams. Because we sure aren't going to be using Hester as a WR.

Does one of the most injured team of the last few seasons really have a roster spot for a pure returner?

We have an elite returner and we choose not to use him. I'm guessing we don't really care about kick and punt returns.
