From what you describe its an over the top situation that doesnt seem worth all the trouble. Medical school is supposed to be difficult, intense, and at times over bearing. What you describe is torture, suppression, and borderline criminal. Reads like a cult campus of sorts, astonishing schools like this are still around.

I would make a clean break and head back home. I understand losing a year of medical school may seem HUGE to you now but in the long run its only a grain of sand. You can easily overcome that year. Go back home, regroup, get healthy (mentally+physically), and plan out the next phase of life.

To put things in perspective: I have a cousin from a 3rd world country, studied medicine (Cardiovascular surgeon) in his native country. Long story short sought political asylum in Sweden due to the chaos and persecution in his native country. Sweden would not recognize any of his past education and achievements. He was a nobody starting from scratch, didnt even speak Swedish, and was 35 yrs old at this time. Enrolled in school, learned the whole language, made it to medical school from there, and is practicing medicine now. Also finalizing his PHD studies on top of it all(cherry on top).

You can do it all man, just be rational about it all. Gods speed!
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

For advice man, keep yourself grounded. You are in a F up situation, but it could be a whole lot worse in life. It will get better and soon. I would try to get your emotions in check before making any decision. Seems like your thoughts are all over the place, probably thinking too much. I would advise to try Meditating. Mindfulness Meditation, look it up. Do it everyday for a little while and it will center you, bring some balance into your thoughts and actions, bring some calmness and peace. And it will lower the extra noise going on in your head. All you got to do is pay attention to every minute detail your breath for 10 min or so. Or at least try. It will work, been practiced for centuries for a reason.

Man, stay up MnM.

Your situation sounds really bad at this school. I understand not wanting to waste a year, but happiness should be more important to you right now. Losing weight along with not being able to leave campus sounds like you guys are in prison.

How many more months until the semester is over?

We have to sign a register and buy a form from the office, then pass through 3 checkposts and show the pass to the guards.

First, there is an academic reason you're there...is the content taught well and are you doing well in your courses? Like other have said/joked, find a hobby or take up some creative outlet so that the emotional weight your feeling doesn't disrupt the academic pursuit.
One love buddy.

The content is not taught well, the professor comes and just takes the book and copies into a PowerPoint or they simply talk about something that won't show up on the finals.

M2M,

Hang in there.

1) Channel your energy.
2) Know that at least you are a US citizen and you probably have other classmates who have to live in that country all their lives. And you dont.
3) Add life skills. Play an instrument, learn a sport. Pick up a new language. It will help you take your mind away from the situation that you are in.
4) Be the best **** doctor you can be. Engage in what you are doing. Until you move on to the next thing.
For love, not money.

Seems ridiculous to not be able to use a laptop in med school.

I have zero clue where on Earth your parents sent you to go to college, but this is one of the weirdest stories I've read in a while. You used to post here a lot, I figured you just got banned or something. Good luck bud.

Stay strong, dude.

I cannot imagine being shoehorned into a lifestyle so rigid for education. Good lord, man, this is supposed to be the happiest, most fun time of your life! It sounds like it's very difficult to get out of this plan, but I hope you can.

I hope that in a year or so, we are reading posts from you saying "HOLY COW GUYS COLLEGE IS AMAZING!!"

Don't know if I'm allowed to post in here being a girl ;)

Think about the alternatives you have, what way you want to go in your life.
If you can't break out physically at least break out mentally, meditate like jamesdiego already said and read lots of books to escape the reality, good books can do that to you. Take up something, whatever you find to fill the time you have there. And plan what you want to do afterwards.
Do you have any friends in there you can talk to? Try to stay positive with at least some little things around you.

I'm glad I'm using a phone or else I wouldn't be posting here.

That's what I said as well because the internet is a great tool for learning. By all these rules, its like the institution is against learning.

Thanks man, I feel a lot better now. The country I'm at starts with a U.

Yeah I've been reading a lot nowadays to pass the time away. My friends here seen the change in my personality and physical stature (lost 10-15lbs) and told me to get back to the US anyway possible.

US consulate:

Hi,

Thanks for your email, and sorry to hear about your situation.
Unfortunately, the U.S. Consulate is only able to repatriate U.S.
citizens in an emergency situation, and under very particular
circumstances. If you are unable to book a ticket yourself, we are
only able to reach out to your family or friends (with you present at
the U.S. Consulate yourself) to ask them for their help in purchasing
tickets for you to get home.

If you do require our help to contact them, please contact us as soon
as possible, and know that you will need to come in person to the
U.S. Consulate to fill out the forms necessary for us to contact them
on your behalf, with you present.

Best regards,
American Citizen Services

Well damn that was my plan a, b and c

To be honest, I think you should leave right now.

You won't regret leaving that hellhole. Don't see much upside to weathering the storm.

your parents send you there no? just make some pictures of yourself if possible and get them to your mom, she has to have a way to help you out, I'm a mom, I know I would do anything possible to make my kid happy. If you want out, think of some creative way to sway your mom to help you out.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I've never heard of going to medical school without getting a bachelor's degree first. Are you sure that the American Medical Association or whoever is responsible for the residency system recognizes the school you are in? The only thing I can think of that would be worse for you than this situation would be if you decided to continue with it, and after 4 years of medical school, no residency program in the US would take you. Then you'll end up practicing medicine where you are, which may be very unappealing for you. It's hard to imagine a US residency program choosing a student who hasn't used a computer in 4 years.

Just remember that your parents cannot force you to do anything and if it's about money, you can probably go to a good state school back in the US, and get enough financial aid to make your own way without help or permission from your parents. As for being able to apply to other schools, you can often do that later than you think. Sometimes right up until the day classes start.

Gar,

First thank you for your message, I can read them but not reply to them btw. Yes, I'm a natutal born USA citizen and Syrian Christian.

This institution is internationally recognized, but I don't know how cheaply they did the construction. I wanted to do medicine in the US (and strong candidate) my parents are scared of the USA college lifestyle of drugs, partying, etc...

Yes my parents can't force me but these 1000s of check posts/points + security make it impossible to escape and I can't run with two heavy bags discreetly. They can just keep me hostage here though :P

Yes ma'am they sent me here. yeah I did that last night, great minds think a like :), but the thing is she is scared of me going to a lifestyle of drugs and partying in college especially since she went to depaul (thought they didn't party hard??)

My other local guardian said she understands what I am going through and she said my parents said no problem to send me back.

Problem is the ticket.

Convince her that she raised you properly and that you have a pretty good idea of what you want to do with your life. You want to be a doctor and no drug addict. If she doesn't trust you to live your life in a positive way she has failed in raising you. Tell her that if you have to be there any longer it will be more and more probable that you need drugs to cope with what an awful situation you're in. And she did manage herself to live a decent life after attending DePaul, you will manage to do that too!
