Why did they Turn Batista Heel ?

I would understand to turn him heel if Did not have a Major Movie coming out this Summer . It is going to be really awkard when he bashes fans for months and the he wants those same to go out and support his movie . They should had waited after Guardians of the Galaxy was already released and then turn him heel

Yeah they did not have much of a choice. They tried numerous times to get him over with cheap pop promos and it didn't work at all. Everyone he faced was getting babyface reactions simply because they were wrestling against him.

wouldn't think it would effect the movie too much either though. they'll still advertise it like crazy just might not mention it that much on air.

As others mentioned, he wasn't getting any face reaction and was getting boo'd heavily by the crowd for a variety of reasons.

A) He's practically been doing nothing since he left WWE. Nothing that actually matters
B) He was not a major star like Rock to have that cache to just walk in
C) Won the Rumble when fans wanted other guys to win

There's more reasons why he's not liked by fans either but they had no choice but to turn him heel. I still can't believe they actually thought that he was a big enough star to come back and be such a big-time player. Heck, Brock was a bigger star and wasn't handed as much as Batista was given in his contract.

Before I get into any specifics, WWE needs to do what's in there best interest not Marvel's or anyone else's. When those are compatible, fantastic. But when they're not they have to think about themselves. And suffering through months of bad booking so that Batista's publicity work for GOTG is a little easier is idiotic.

As for the specifics as to why he turned heel, there's many reasons many of which have already been touched on. One thing that isn't often mentioned is that literally the first thing he did when he stepped foot in a WWE ring was hug Stephanie and HHH. I don't know if it had a huge impact, but it got him off on a really bad foot.

I think the Royal Rumble had the most impact. It was a hot crowd that was absolutely pissed when Bryan wasn't in it so whoever won was going to get booed, then it happened to be Batista and everyone was like WTF?! And as said above, he wasn't as big as like Rock, Austin, etc so its not like he was going to be hugely over just by walking in the door.

I wonder if they put Batista through any kind of testing (not pharmacology, fitness) before they agreed to give him the title? His dexterity is a problem... it took him over a month to land a decent Batista Bomb, like the one he landed on Orton on Monday.

His comeback has been disastrous. Gassing in his matches, a nothing feud with Del Rio getting face pops just because he's not Batista, stumbling on the mic twice on Monday and not being charismatic enough to control the crowd, a spiteful DGAF attitude to his demeanor versus DGAF "Deal with it" heeling. That's actually a tremendous catch phrase--- but it comes off as "I signed that contract and I'm going to win the title whether you smarks, who know waaaay too much, like it or not" versus "I'm an arrogant SOB, I'm the best, deal with it". It's just not clicking and the effort isn't there. He doesn't care and I think casuals can see what smarky fans have known about Batista... he cares about his clothes more than his profession.

i love pro wrestling. its NEVER been THAT serious though. this **** was gold. even funnier was the vid where he found out he was going to be on TV for spazzing about the Royal Rumble and his reaction from people to his overreaction is equally priceless.

I think most of us can agree, Batista's return has been a huge flop to this point. And it got me thinking, and I will readily admit this is an extremely premature question to ask, but where does it rank in terms of the worst returns of top guys in WWE history? So, that's excluding guys like D'Lo Brown who when he came back for a cup of coffee a few years ago was jobbing to Santino within a few weeks because he was never above a mid-carder. And also excluding guys who returned from injury unless its like HBK where they were gone for multiple years.

I came up with 4 guys who left the company, came back and had weak returns. The two Ultimate Warrior returns, Mr. Perfect in 2002, Scott Hall in 2002 and Kevin Nash in 2011 (although in this case, he technically returned several months earlier in the one-off Royal Rumble appearance). In the case of the Warrior, Hall and Hennig's returns it wasn't the reactions they were getting or the work they were doing but rather they had backstage issues that reared there heads and were released after short stints.

That leaves Nash. If we ignore Nash's one-off return at the Rumble and look at his WWE return as his return to WWE story lines which was at Summerslam then Nash would be the one I'd find most comparable. He wasn't getting the universal boos that Batista got but more confusion/apathy at his return. But that next night when he had the dueling promo with Punk, Punk made him look so bad and at first it was pretty entertaining but towards the end I thought it was really painful to watch. I think even Nash has talked about how Punk didn't necessarily go out and "shoot" but rather that the promo wasn't completely scripted and allowed both guys some latitude and Punk went in a little rougher than he thought he would but Nash admitted that he looked pretty bad after that exchange.

Not gonna lie, I havent heard one person say a negative thing about the trailer. Its going to be a box office smash, not even Batista will be able to **** it up.
