I don't know why but I'm under the impression that the Lakers are in love with Exum.

21-game losing streak? Hoping the 76ers end up with the 10th pick of the draft.

Rooting for Milwaukee to get the top pick. Might lose, but at least they'll actually battle teams.

I am so sick of this "we would only be 10th in the western conference" talk. Since when was the western conference the benchmark ? Since when was the NBA not about match ups ? Does anybody else think the western conference has inflated records ?

Let's be real, every West playoff team would school us in a series. Dallas/Memphis would dispose of anyone in the East in 4-6 games, minus Indy and Miami. 10th is about right if we were in the West and healthy, maybe 9th seeing how PHX is stumbling.

The conference disparity definitely isn't as bad as it looked to start the season, though. A lot of East teams have been playing great ball in the new year, and are quietly picking up quality wins against these supposed 'almighty' West teams.

3rd year in the league, 3rd season ending injury. He's arguably a worst player now than when he came into the league at 19.

Cavs would really be ahead of the curve if they dealt him this offseason while they still can get good value.

Dat - go try posting that on the Cavs board. I am sure they would be none too pleased.

In all seriousness, I have wondered for a while now why Wall is compared to Irving. Kyrie gets all the pub because of his endorsements, not his game.

IMHO, Wall passed him last season (in limited action). This year, it's not even close...

How exactly does the West have inflated records? I'd love to hear this one.

They are being unfairly rewarded for scoring more points than they allow.

In the past there did seem to be more awful teams in the West, but this season no teams get close to the Sixers or Bucks. The bottom 3 Western teams are pretty much equivalent to the 3rd through 5th worst Eastern teams.

True the Wizards wouldn't make the playoffs in the Western Conference. But if 16 teams in the playoffs made the postseason, then the Wizards would make it as the 14th seed. Or rather, if the conferences were divided equally, the Wizards would be a 7th seed.

If anyone things the West is overrated, check out team scoring differential. The East only has four teams that score more points than they allow. The West has two that are going to miss the playoffs.

It's that bad.

So Jason Collins was getting gay taunts by a knucklehead from another team.

The Nets played the Sacramento Kings a few days ago. Pretty easy to put 2 and 2 together...

If the NBA seeded the playoffs without regard to conference affiliation, the Wizards would be 15th (using winning percentage).

If they seeded by scoring differential, the Wizards would be 15th.

If they seeded using SRS (a combination of scoring differential and strength of schedule -- and no, I have no idea why they would seed using this stat), the Wizards would be 15th.

If the Wizards were in the Western Conference, their record would have them in 10th place, percentage points ahead of Minnesota. Their SRS would have them 11th.

I'd be interested to hear your argument. I took a quick look at the numbers, and they don't seem to support the notion that the Western Conference has inflated records. If anything, their records are suppressed because they don't get to play as many games against the Eastern Conference.

First, league-wide records vs. each conference:

Code: Select all

OPPONENT     WINS    LOSS    W%      W82
vs. EAST     562     457     .553    45.3
vs. WEST     455     564     .448    36.7

Pretty straightforward. When teams play against an Eastern Conference opponent, they win 55% of the time. When they play against a Western Conference opponent, they win about 45% of the time. That W82 is wins per 82 games. A perfectly average team playing against Eastern Conference teams could expect to win about 45 games over an 82-game season. That same team would win roughly 37 against only Western Conference opponents.

Only 4 teams this season have a better winning percentage against Western Conference opponents than they do against Eastern opponents -- the Clippers, Heat, Nets and Cavaliers.

The Wizards have the league's 5th highest East vs. West differential. Against the East, their winning percentage is .610. Against the West, it's .370. The teams with bigger differentials: Boston, New Orleans, Detroit and Portland.

Gorgui Dieng with 21 points, 21 rebounds, 4 assists last night.. his 3rd straight double double now that he's finally getting minutes.

Another promising rook, though he's old (24)

Durant just dropped 51 points in double overtime against Toronto...

Durant is the new King of Clutchness. Hands down.

Toronto had that game wrapped up because of Lowry…but KD said 'uh, uh scrubs'.

Bad idea for the Toronto fans to MVP chant Lowry with KD in the house.

Very bad idea.

I like Lowry, but if fans are doing MVP chants for him, the chant has lost all meaning.

The Pacers are major frauds.

They still can't score and Paul George hasn't been right since the story about him trying to pay a stripper $1 million to abort their baby came out.

Hibbert had zero rebounds tonight vs. the Grizzlies.
