I feel like when you tank as hard as the Sixers did, you need to come away with a big splash and more of a "sure thing" as far as franchise player is concerned. With Embiid, there is now an injury to be worried about, as well as the whole "potential vs. production" argument. Maybe I'm just severely scared of a big man with an injury, and I just need someone to talk me off the ledge.
But as far as I'm thinking, I'd like to see Wiggins or Parker out of the draft. Anything else would be disappointing. However, I wouldn't hate Randle, Embiid, Exum. I just wouldn't be as pleased.
I think most of us would prefer Wiggins or Parker over anyone else, but the lottery is just that. If we end up picking third and Embiid is there (which means Parker and Wiggins are not) then he has to be the pick. The athleticism and the speed at which he has picked up the game and is consistently improving show this kid to be something special. The back injury should make you nervous though. That doesn't mean it will be a problem, but it could be. It won't be like picking Oden over Durant if we pick him up at 3 though. The only other franchise level talent left is Exum and there are just as many risks to picking him.
THe problem is that we can't accurately predict the future. EVery pick is a gamble, but the upside on Embiid is so huge that you can't feel bad taking him at 3 or 4. I someone takes him 1 or 2, however, they might live to regret that.
