Hawks vs Trailblazers

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Fri Mar 28, 2014 12:39 am

So last night we had two Game Threads that went unused. Tonight we have none...

Man I love being a Hawk fan...

ATL down to POR at the half by 16.

Our team stinks.

I heard ever since korver got hurt we have been shooting 28% from 3 as a team. (1-7 in the 1st half tonight) This shows how important he is to our offense and it also shows that we have no knockdown shooters outside of korver.

Seems like it's been one long losing streak after another since right before he all star break. Hawks gotta be up there with the Lakers for the number of injuries this year.

Was at the game. Things I noticed:
1) we have ZERO outside shooters. None. Like I said, without Korver, our offense is terrible. We cant space the floor because no one can create their own shot. Paul is too small to back down PFs/Cs and Brand is too old. Teague , god bless him he has to shoulder ALL the scoring and play making.

2) Muscala is terrible right now. All he can do is pick and roll. He cant rebound, he cant shoot, he cant play in the paint because hes too small. After todays thread about Dieng, makes me even more pissed. However, need to give him full off season to develop and hit the weights and HGH.

3) Lou Williams has lost his confidence. He missed his first 2 threes, and then refused to shoot the rest of the first half. He changed the second half and his shots started to fall. But he looks lost. He does NOT trust his knee at all.

4) Severe lack of talent. Ill say this, this team fights. They just are super untalented. Not much you can do with a bunch of scrubs and bench players.

Blazers are far superior, deserve to win. We have our work cut out in the offseason

Co-signed. Bud has done well to get 30+ wins out of this collection of players. But Ferry put a bunch of hot mess together. I have no idea where this franchise is going right now.

We are really lucky to have Bud. Ferry was basically in love with Mike Brown and desperately tried to get him here.
one of the reasons he resigned as the cavs gm because they fired Brown. That is how much he liked him. Im glad Cleveland were dumb enough to sign him to a big 5 year contract.

Anyways I really question Ferry's team building skills. He didnt do a good job of surrounding LBJ (who was the single best building block in the NBA) with much talent so I have a hard time believing he can build a championship core with building blocks like Horford and teague.

Also I question his direction. Its like we are in a half rebuild/half win now mode. He said before we are in "rebuilding mode" but he has shown zero interest in going young and has mostly gone after cheap low ceiling vets. So I guess we are in win now mode? but this team lacks any kind of talent to do anything meaningful and has a very low ceiling. We arent fully committed to either direction and Ferry keeps using "flexibility" to get fans to buy in to this directionless path.

If we continue to be this mediocre low ceiling team with no direction after this offseason. I dunno what I will do.

On 100 possessions, Scott is at... -10pts
Nearly each time is on the floor, the team is loosing pts on opponents, and it doesn't seems to improve during the season.

Good point. I was very high on Mike Scott a few months ago, but am definitely seeing flaws in his game that could make him a deal breaker. I do think he could fetch us something in trade, particularly if packaged with another tangible asset.

And +/- last night Vs POR :
-17pts in 12min for Scott
-15pts in 29min for Williams
while Millsap manage to get +5pts in 35min

All the others are between -5 and -12, but once again, Scott is the lowest one
Note that +5pts for Millsap in 35min means -20pts in 13min without him...

I don't understand this pessimism. What were you expecting this season after Al went down and in a game without Korver, and against a premier offense?

Sometimes a lost season is a lost season. You can't drive a car without an engine - that Bud has taken us this far is a wonder and a testament to the team's winning culture.

Well lets look at what ferry has done, its mostly on the jettisoning of bad contracts and head cases. I think we can all agree there, he got us cap space, draft picks.

Where hes gone wrong IMO is still a little too early to see. We will really judge him after this season and this draft. If he doesnt land a WINNER, a top 5 rookie or FA, then...........

Mike Scott looks like a good pick, but hes not a starter, especially against bigs like Portland has. I think hes a great role player, an off the bench player. Not major minutes.

Muscala, tough to be critical because he has not played much, and people underestimate how FAST the NBA game is. But watching him up close, he has terrible footwork, terrible rebounding instincts. He got pushed around by Robin Lopez (and he should) hes 25lbs lighter but i think it may be more. Im not sure Muscala weighs 239 like they claim, i think hes a 220-225lb guy. There were so many times he was under the basket out of position on def and oreb. He did hit 2 baseline jumpers which i liked, but he cant post up and play the paint which is something we DESPERATELY need. We basically have a team of jump shooters who dont shoot well.

Bebe, who knows

Schroeder, once again, barrage of bad passes and TO. Then again, its hard to get a handle on how bad or good he is when the best offensive weapon he has is another guard in mack, or Scott. I saw a couple really nice passes from him that were fumbled or dropped.

I think now, more than ever, our number 1 concern is a 7 footer with meat. I DONT CARE who it is, we need someone that can hog the paint and rebound. Asik looks better and better the more i watch this team.

Millsap may want out if they dont get a C because he looks absolutely GASSED right now.

Oh I think 30+ wins is great for this team. We are missing arguably the 1 piece we couldnt do without AH. I think we could miss Millsap or even Teague and be ok, but not AH our entire lineup is too small and undersized and they dont shoot well enough to take advantage of that.
