If this Timberwolves game doesn't get Dantoni fired I have lost all hope in management...

Re: Mike D'Antoni, Marshall University have "mutual interest
Would Byron Scott be the answer? His arrival in Los Angeles has been an inevitability since his days with the Nets. He has a good relationship with Kobe Bryant, and he's shown success with even moderate talent. I don't blame the Cavaliers' failures on him.
That franchise has been in a shambles since LeBron left in free agency. If Mike D'Antoni does indeed leave for a college team in Division I (something I hope for as he would be very successful down there), Byron Scott would be a fantastic option to roll with.

Im not a big fan and never will be of D'Antoni, but its funny how the players in this year draft fits his style of Offense. I think Jabari Parker who be a great power forward in his scheme.

Always said MDA would make a hell of a college coach. He would break the mode of these control freak, call a set on every trip type coaches. MDA would let his teams run and gun shots at will, it would be crazy seeing a college team damn near score 100 points every week.

Deep, but what about the defense? The biggest difference in my eyes is that the college kids play defense. You think he could pull that off?

I Think Mike D would do well in the college ranks, I mean you don't think young guys wouldn't be tripping over playing for a guy who coached Kobe and Nash two big names while they were growing up. I can def see that being a positive to his recruiting. Marshall I believe is still C-USA and while the name of the school does mean alot when it comes to recruiting it wouldn't take much talent to become really good in that conference since most of the programs are average at best. He wont need 5 star recruits to be successful but could possible get the best of the bunch at that talent level based on his name alone.
I tell you what if I am an above average PG that can't find a Big name school to play for and I would have to wait 2+ years to get a shot.. I would def wanna play for Dantoni, His offense would lead to some flashy numbers. Defensively his teams might be terrible but I don't think most programs he would face would have an offense that capable of matching the points MD would be trying to put up.
I remember a few years ago Isisah thomas was coaching at FIU which is a team that happens to play in C-USA as well he was successful at recruiting but as we all know he is isn't the best coach regardless of his eye for talent. I can see a similar outcome for Dantoni, except I would argue he would be a better coach.

The freedom D'antoni gives his players can only work at the NBA level in my opinion.. A bunch of undisciplined college kids with the green light is a recipe for disaster.. College coaching is much more structured & system oriented than the NBA for a reason.

True and False, it's only structured if the coach is a control freak like 95% of them are. Paul Westhead was the inventor of the hi tempo offense and ran it at two colleges with lots of success. MDA's system could work easily because the college system is nothing but a pipe line from the AAU system where all those guys want to do is score.lakersin4 wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:Always said MDA would make a hell of a college coach. I'm not saying an uptempo offense couldn't work, of course it can.. But 95% of those coaches are control freaks because they need to be in order to have the players work together as a team & win games.. I don't see how you think taking a bunch of AAU players & having them play AAU ball at the NCAA level could be successful.

I think you're not getting what I'm saying. I didn't say they would just do whatever they wanted, and secondly you don't have to be that "control freak" coach to win games. As I said Paul Westhead and even Jerry Tarkanian did well by just letting their players play. I disagree you don't have to be a control freak to be successful in college.lakersin4 wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:True and False, it's only structured if the coach is a control freak like 95% of them are. The AAU reference was only mentioned because most of these AAU players go into college not really wanting to have their games handcuffed, but most times they are. This is why when those players are drafted people go..."Oh I didn't know he could score like that", it's the coaches that put on the restraints.
I didn't say they would play AAU style games, the gist of what I was saying is that if MDA where to coach college ball he'd stand a better chance of getting top notch talent because he wouldn't be as rigid as most of these hard asses in college already.
Don't get it twisted, I love certain college coaches and their styles. But it's guys like Bill Self that over do it compared to say Rick Patino who doesn't.

LOLL
MDA coaching reminds me of my league team I use to play for.
4 P.G and one tall guy just to rebound and whoever dribbles the ball down court shots it first and if you rebound his miss then you shoot it next and then you walk your arse back on defense. LMFAOOO!!!
