I read a lot of "Durant is only 25, he's going to get a lot better!". Is he? Is that a fact that every player improves his game as he gets older? Is it impossible to think that a player might peak at 25?

The reason I'm wondering is simple: if Durant is still going to get better than this over the course of the next 5-10 years, he's without a single doubt the greatest player who ever played this game by a landslide. His 2013-2014 season is already being compared to Top 5-10 players. If this is only a step along the way for KD, he must end at the absolute top in terms of player skill and capability, not necessarily overall when hardware is taken into the equation.

Personally, I believe his astounding 13-14 season is fairly close to his maximum potential. I just can't envision a player getting a lot better than this over the course of multiple years. But Durant may prove me wrong, and I'll at least be happy to watch greatness unfold.

Honestly kd is jordan like in a Larry bird body...He can take almost any defender in iso and can hit every type of shot in the game...better yet he's Dirk and kobe smashed together... so yes he deserves to be a top player when all this is finished...The same way lebron came in as magic 2.0
But getting better also mean putting better fits around him...players who fits his style...we see lebron at his best in Miami because it fits his style of play completely...we realize kobe wins when he have dominant bigs...even with other lesser known player like dragic and bledsoe...they work well because of tempo and the floor spacing required to guard the team.
Building a team around durant will improve his play...If sefolosha could actually shoot open 3s or Kendrick Perkins actually did something...or westbrook actually passed while durant was in the zone...then we'll be looking at one of the most dominant teams, because after westbrook and ibaka the team has a drastic drop in production...
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

29 points on 100% TS. What a lethal player.

Good night for Lebron, too.

Managed to dish out 6 assists in that time, too.
Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:

Re; Kd improving

Statistically its tough to see just b/c the turnovers and decisionmaking are still a problem for him. His length helps him enormously to draw fouls as much as ppl complain about his free throws a player with that combination of size, length, athleticism, shooting/release point and explosiveness is gonna get fouled alot. At the same time it gives him a ceiling on his playmaking/passing. He still has a high dribble and is easier to see when hes gonna set up teammates for passes specially since he doesnt have a strong/fluid pass physically and his ball iq on defense and playmaking can make major leaps. If he continues at this level offensively (IMO hes having at least peak Lebron impact on offense right now) or maintains it for next few years for his "peak" and develops into an allD defender i can see him reaching the peak level of players like Michael, Shaq, Lebron, Larry etc. Right now hes a step or 2 below them IMO

I remember reading somewhere (can't find the link) that most players statistical peak is around 25/26 (point/rebounds per game) but that doesn't mean they are a better player at this time than later.

Many of the great players got better after their statistical peak by knowing better how to play in the system and how to make other players better. I also think if you get a little older the players focus shifts more toward the playoffs and they relax a little in the RS, because that's where it really matters and a random RS season game doesn't really make a difference.

Is he really a step or two below Larry Bird peak? I am not sure that is true.

That 5 year stretch of Larry from 84-88 with 3 consecutive MVPs, 4 consecutive Finals, 2 championships, 2 Finals MVPs while averaging 27/10/7 (RS and playoffs) with 50/40/90 is a peak not many have reached, nothing to be ashamed of to be a step or two behind.

Well i thought he meant single season peaks not a 5 year stretch.

Single season it's probably closer, but I still would pick 85 Bird.

Really depends on the playoffs too. If Durant leads OKC through this season's West, and then wins the finals, it will be an individual season for the ages.

There is still a chance Lebron will turn it on, and win mvp.

That's true, at the end the playoffs is where great performances matter. If you think back to that Nowitzki MVP season what most remember is his poor performance and that painful first round exit. :( :(

Don't think so, he had a chance after his good February but since his 61 point game he hasn't played at a high enough level.

Also, he shouldn't be playing 40+ minutes at this time, he isn't 23 anymore.

Durant's averaging 35 points his last ten games, what do you think he'll be doing while Lebron 'turns it on' these remaining few weeks?

It's over.

Even the staunchest Lebron nuthuggers have to acknowledge it's over for good now. Let's look at the real prize now instead.
