awesome!!!

well, lets figure this out... not sure how much you follow soccer, so forgive me if you know all this stuff.

1) which soccer channels do you get? you want to pick a team in a league that you can regularly watch. the english premier league is on nbc sports. the spanish league (la liga) is on bein sports. and i think the german league (bundesliga) is on goltv. i get all 3 channels as part of the sports tier package on time warner in charlotte. my recommendation is the english premier league. its better competition from top to bottom. la liga is almost always two teams (barcelona and real madrid) and a massive gap between everyone else. this year there is a 3rd team involved in the title chase (atletico madrid), but that is rare. the bundesliga is bayern munich and everyone else, especially this year. i dont think they have lost a game all season.

2) you're a bobcats fan. you have suffered enough. dont feel bad about picking a great team to root for. its no fun to be a fan of a mid-lower level soccer team, unless you are from that town. the mid-lower level teams will never ever win anything and they know it. they will never have the money to compete with the big teams and in soccer, money rules everything. richest teams buy the best players.

3) domestic leagues are fun, but the champions league is freaking amazing, especially once you get to the last 16, when just about every team is full of stars. are you familiar with how the champions league works? you really want to pick a team that at least has a chance to play in the champions league from time to time. champions league games are shown on fox soccer and are played on tuesdays and wednesdays in the fall and spring. the final is in may.

the best and biggest clubs in the world

barcelona - they have been the best team for the better part of the last 5 years thanks to leo messi, xavi and iniesta and now neymar. they will pass you to death, which i find boring to watch. they dive like crazy and complain to the refs non-stop. i want their team bus to drive into a minefield.

real madrid - when real and barca play each other, i always root for real. i think their style of play is much more fun to watch. tons of speed on the wings with christiano ronaldo and gareth bale (shame he left england). but they also dive like crazy and complain non-stop.

bayern munich - they are probably the best team in the world right now. they won the champions league last season and brought in barcelona's old coach this season. they had been my 2nd favorite team in europe the past decade behind chelsea, but i have a hard time rooting for them now that they are the best. still, frank ribbery, arjen robben, toni kroos, thomas mullen - they are loaded. and they keep buying every great player from any other team in germany.

manchester city - they are the new kids to the block. only been great the past 3-4 years after they were bought by rich middle east oil money (similar to chelsea 10 years ago). probably the best team in england. sergio aguero and yaya toure. toure might be the best midfielder in the world right now. dude is a beast.

chelsea (london) - they were reunited with their old coach this season - jose mourinho. he is a genius. tons of young talent like eden hazard and oscar, mixed with old vets like john terry and petr cech. great defensively, deadly on the counter attack. only thing holding them back is the lack of a world class striker. lamar and doc are also chelsea fans. :D

liverpool - tons of history dating back to the glory days, long ago. they have been down the past few years, but are having a great year this year. havent won the EPL in forever. led by great, but moronic striker, luis suarez. fun to watch this year. brother dave is a big fan.

arsenal (london) - they try to be barcelona light and do a half decent impression until they always fall apart when it counts. always good, havent been great in a long time. crazy deep team with some great attacking talent like ozil. always soft defensively and they havent spent the money needed to really take the next step. i cant stand arsenal. only team i hate more is barcelona.

manchester united - 1st time in like 30 years they wont finish in the top 4. their long time manager retired this year and it shows. still have great players in robin van persie and wayne rooney and ex-chelsea player jaun mata. but defense is old and a mess.

tottenham (london) - the other london team. they were tons of fun to watch 3 years ago, but now, meh

everton (liverpool) - the other liverpool team. small team, not much money to spend, but always competitive. usa goalie tim howard is their goalie.

atletico madrid - great defensively this year. but historically a selling team - meaning any time they have a great player, he will sold to either barcelona, real madrid or out of spain. shame. only two teams in spain are buying clubs every year. the rest are feeder clubs.

borussia dortmund - the 2nd best team in germany. tons of talent, even if they lose a great player every year to bayern it seems. made the champions league final last year.

paris saint-germain - the best team in france. new rich owner bought tons of great players last two years and now they are a powerhouse.

other teams to consider:
juventus
ac milan
inter milan

my recommendation: pick chelsea

My General Soccer Knowledge

USA Soccer(MLS)- It is a decent league but they need to ditch the draft and the cap and maybe even the playoffs (basically make it like the rest of the world), the Seattle Sounders recently got Clint Dempsey getting him in Seattle was pretty huge for the MLS because Clint is the Captain of the United States national team(which is decent Klinsmann has done a great job so far i think) and is probably the best player in the MLS or at least top 5, also like Thierry Henry...i dont know why..... and the USA Womens National team is hot.....just sayin...oh yea i forgot also ditch the conferences make 1 big league

Spain Soccer (La Liga)- Pretty good- very top heavy only 2 or 3 teams will contend, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid (believe they are in 1st place by a point or two right now) after those 3 there is a HUGE drop in talent, the Spain National team is loaded #1 in the FIFA world rankings with the Germans and Argentina behind them (might be Portugal instead of Argentina)

German Soccer(Bundesliga)-Bayern and everyone else basically im pretty sure they haven't lost yet this season might be the best team in the world i also like Thomas Muller, their National Team is great with Ozil and Muller and Schweinsteiger as midfielders/forwards also have a really good defenseman in Hummles, Borussia Dortmund is a solid team

Italian Soccer (Serie A)- similar to the German League, Juventus is just loads better than anyone else its not even fair, Giorgio Chiellini is possibly my favorite player i always purchased him on the FIFA games, Mario Balotelli and Milan are really struggling (near bottom of table) which is a shame because Mario is a really good player but is also somewhat of a nut

England Soccer (Barclays Premier League)- Easily the best league in the world, the top of the table is very competitive with each team having superstar players and huge payrolls, Liverpool is probably the best team but its close between them and the next 3-4 teams on the table, Luis Suarez is a beast, Piers Morgan (CNN) is the biggest Arsenal fan ever, its hilarious to watch him rage on twitter when they aren't playing well especially after that last game when they got blown out by Chelsea

Russian Soccer (Russian Premier League)- The Incredible Hulk plays in Russia for Zenit St. Petersburg, they are probably the 2nd or 3rd best team in the league with Loko Moscow being the top team

French Soccer ( Ligue 1), Paris Saint-Germain is easily the top team and the big spenders, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a great scorer, McBob should try his pony-tail style haircut i think he would look good, i think David Beckham is there now not sure tho

Mexican Soccer (cant think of league name)- Season started pretty recently, also not that many good teams very average league which is somewhat surprising considering how much Mexicans like soccer Cruz Azul is the best team no clue about any players, pretty sure someone on the USA National Team plays down there

South Korean Soccer...called the K-League no clue about teams are or any players

In reality you want a team you can watch every game for the most part so youll need to stick with the EPL. Now the teams that get the most coverage are Manchester United, Chelsea FC, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton. If you happen to have BeinSports though you get all the Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid and a few others. Just do some research on a team and see if you like their play style or maybe certain players enough and go for it. But remember if you're not a Manc you're a Wanc

@JDR - seems you have a great deal of soccer knowledge for someone who hasn't picked a team yet. haha. what are you waiting for? do it. its awesome.

@snidley - i knew there were a few closet arsenal fans on the board, i just couldnt remember who. sorry about last weekend. LOL. and sorry about your upcoming game vs man city. wenger says your recent problems are because the team played too conservatively. LOL. um... try again. maybe don't try to play a high back line vs chelsea at the bridge. that's a recipe for disaster.

As you pointed out when the going gets tough the wheels fall off. Not the same team without Ramsey, Wilshire, Ozil. No excuse for the spanking Chelsea laid on them. Embarrassing.

on the oversized vs undersized im picking oversized because well....they are big and stuff and they have the other MJ

for picking my soccer team...im not sure, im gonna do a weird thing and use the ESPN lotto machine to pick the team for me, im gonna pick a high lotto team (like Utah) and where ever they land is what team i'll like, so lets say the #1 pick = Chelsea if the Lotto team i pick gets #1 pick i will be a Chelsea fan

this sounds interesting.

which teams are you putting in the lottery? where you place those teams should be telling.

how about a random list generator?
http://www.random.org/lists/

you put in the teams you are considering and whoever comes out on top is the winner.

revenge of the nerds will never get old. one of many movies i watched 1000s of times as a kid. had it recorded on VHS, along with other 80s comedy classics like - police academy, wierd science, caddyshack, airplane, naked gun, blues brothers and animal house. best time for comedies if you ask me. i was maybe 8-15 when i was watching all these r-rated comedies on HBO and recording them on VHS. where the hell were my parents back then. LOL. i was just joking around with my mom and sister about this last weekend. my dad let me watch anything as long as i promised to "close my eyes" during the raunchy parts.
