TSN’s broadcast of Toronto FC’s home opener on Saturday was a record-breaker, as overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that TFC’s 1-0 win over DC United attracted a record average audience of 352,000 viewers, making it the most-watched MLS game ever on English television in Canada.*

The previous high for an MLS audience on Canadian English-language television was for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s only playoff appearance in 2012 (average audience of 335,000).

Audiences for the home opener were up 18% compared to the TFC season opener last week in Seattle (299,000 on TSN).

Audience is growing! Especially considering 20,000 fans or so were at the game.

This is why there is significant investment in this team. There is an audience and appetite for quality soccer in this country. All this team needs is a little credibility and it has the potential to be one of those brands recognized worldwide.

Beckerman is having a boss year to start the season, so is Plata. Thankfully Plata is out hurt for this one. I think that gives us a chance. I think we need to score 3 to win this one thou. Gilberto or someone else will have to chip in with some goals this time out.

Haha, I agree. I just hope the game will be worth the wait.

Beating RSL on the road is very tough. I'll be happy if we leave Salt Lake with a point.

Although Gilberto didn't score last time out, I thought he played an excellent game

Hoping for more the same tonight, can't wait for the game. Going to be a tough stadium to play in

This could get ugly. Down 2-0, Defoe received a yellow, now Gilberto is hobbling...

Last night was a humbling game. TFC exposed a lack of depth and also we played tactically poor. You can't dump the ball and play the counter if you don't have the midfielder horses to win it back. It's a testament to some of other players that we had the chances to actually be in this game with a couple breaks. There were some real quality scoring chances that we couldn't put away.

Having Hall in there for Osorio is such a huge downgrade. He was such a poor passer and turned it over so often; plus he kept letting guys run through the midfield without getting picked up.

Bloom was always our 11th starter anyways, but forcing him to play out of position at the wing really isn't fair to him. Hopefully INF can get into game shape quickly because we need another wide player and more importantly we need a bench option that doesn't look horrible if they're forced into starting.

I did like what we saw in the17 minutes of play from Bekker. He made nice clean passes and didn't look out of place. Maybe he's salvageable after all.

Missed the game last night, but watched it today.

Humbling is right, but getting 3 points against RSL in Utah is hard for every team in MLS. Lots of work is still needed, but I expect a win on the road against Columbus.

Also, if Defoe does miss any time this result looks even worse.
