He provides solid defense now but has very good defensive instincts that could lead to serious improvement in the future. He is also not terrible in the other facets of the game. That is really all you need out of a back up pg, one major positive and then no detrimental tendencies.

I think there is something that people are missing. While he's a nice kid and becoming a fan favorite someone wrote he could eventually supplant Thomas and be a long term solution as a starter.

You kind of don't plan on long term back up players.

Then we shouldn't sign Thomas to a long term contract.

You get it

I'd argue with his defensive potential, but that's what makes a good role player, being decent/good at everything. He's solid, that's what you want next to your stars.

There isn't enough book on McCallum to say what he is. Potential is also a term people use to qualify their position but it's not quantified. One game he looks good...the next he misses three dunks. Younger people get better with time and age, but "potentially" is that going to make him a solid NBA player?

He is skilled and able in certain areas now, now to what degree that extends we don't know yet. I wouldn't cement him as a part of the offensive or production "core" at this point and honestly, hopefully they don't need him to be. Hopefully all he has to be is a good defender, one who sets up the offense, stays out of the way when asked, and able to step up to a little when needed. If you have a true SG next to the PG on this team that's what this team will need to be able to function properly.
