season game thread
another year of yankee baseball is here!
team looks much better than last year and pineada could be the comeback player of the year
pen is a concern, but this season should be interesting
I will be watching for the jeter farewell tour

I think the pen will be fine, my biggest concern is the infield. They need to stay healthy and produce

Yankees will DESTROY the Astros but the KEY will be keeping Jeter fresh...and Tex's obligatory DL stints.

A lot of poor defense so far in the first inning of game 1!

Dammit Soriano! Alfonso becoming the second coming of Ruben Sierra in his second stint but he was looking for the home run when he didn't have to. Inning ending double play. FRAKK!!!!!!

Re: season game thread
CC traditionally starts slow...and that has me wondering, "Well why the hell would you start him first in the rotation?"
I'd go Kuroda, CC, Tanaka, Nova, Pineda...

Re: season game thread
we look **** terrible on offense, losing a series to the worse team in baseball not a good way to start the season
also aginst right handers we should move jeter down and move gardner up to get something started up top with ells and gardner

Gardner doesn't look any better than Jeter after just 2 games. He scored on a fielder's choice.
Jeter did some fine hitting yesterday. Tonight he worked more pitches 23 than any other Yankee. It's the middle of that order that is supposed to drive in the runs. Sounds like a familiar problem?

204 million doesn't seem to buy that much anymore........hence why I was in favor of fiscal responsibility and a full rebuild but no 75-85 wins and missing the playoffs is so much better.
Preemptively joining the Bucks and Twolves bandwagons.

Fiscal responsibility means to Hal and Brian making sure the fans ARE paying BIG dollars at a billion dollar stadium with shiny elevators...
That said, I think the Yanks are getting good looks despite meshing 5 new players and 2 coming off season ending injuries into a whole new line up.
McCann showed up Teixiera in Game 1 beating the shift. He's not opposed to going opposite field with a nice tap that falls for a bloop single, advancing all the runners, and keeping the inning going. Mark HAD to try the same thing AND succeeded...keep in mind, previous years, Mark would fight the shift and hit into a double play EVERY single time.
The numbers don't say it but Beltran, Jeter, Gardner are getting good hacks. Roberts had a good game last night, taking what's there.
What is killing the Yankees, Soriano is cold. Kelley Johnson is atrocious. Ellsbury isn't comfortable yet. Those guys are killing rallies one way or another. Not a deal breaker but certainly not acceptable.

It's early, but there's some BIG warning signs this team is going to be bad.

Re: season game thread
We know a few things. 1. Cervelli's Spring training stats meant nothing. 2. Teixeira is nothing without McCann. 3. Feel more comfortable with Gardner in CF than Ellsbury. Soriano is in a slump already. Nova is dancing out of trouble for now.
