Barca hit with transfer ban

Post#1 » by EuroPacer » Wed Apr 2, 2014 11:28 am

Apparently Barca has flaunted the rules regarding the signing of under 18 players, in completely uncharacteristic manner UEFA has actually slapped a massive transfer ban on them. Could turn into an interesting series of confrontations between UEFA and the Spanish FA as they have been found complicit.

So, what is Ter Stegen going to do in Gladbach? They already got a replacement for him. And a good one...

Barca will probably be able to buy and sell this Summer while they appeal.

I read a German source that claimed differently. According to them the ban is from this summer to winter transfer window 2015.

Here another source claiming a 14 month ban until summer 2015. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26852466

I think they may be banned from buying players this summer.

edit:
The Disciplinary Committee regarded the infringements as serious and decided to sanction the club with a transfer ban at both national and international level for two complete and consecutive transfer periods, together with a fine of CHF 450,000. Additionally, the club was granted a period of 90 days in which to regularise the situation of all minor players concerned.

Barca will work things out IMO.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up at another team, he has a good reputation.

Some reports are saying the Ter Stegen deal was already signed in January so it would go through. The Halilovic deal is out though.

This!

Gladbach only revealed the signing of Yann Sommer once they reached an agreement with ter Stegen's new club.
Barca will also appeal and as ter Stegen's contract was signed in early march(the latest), which was before they received the ban.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen's agent does not believe that the Borussia Monchengladbachstarlet's proposed move to Barcelona will now go through.

The Germany international had already agreed to join the Blaugrana at the end of the season but the deal is now in jeopardy after it was announced on Wednesday that the Catalans have been banned from signing any players for the next two transfer windowsbecause of Fifa regulation breaches relating to the acquisition and registration of players under the age of 18.

Ter Stegen's representative, Gerd vom Bruch, had initially claimed that he was confident that the reported €12 million switch would still go through but now he cannot see how the goalkeeper can complete his move to Camp Nou.

Serious question: what happens if 1-2 more Barca goalies go down? Must a 17 year old Barca B goalie play then?

They can always sign an unemployed goalie if they have to, e.g. Timo Hildebrand! :)

I'm shocked. I actually thought Barca was untouchable, especially after all the tapping up they used to do of contracted Arsenal players without ever getting in trouble for it.

I was reading into it. If they appeal they can go into court which will delay the process allowing them to pick up players this summer at least.

There's part of me that has a morbid curiosity about what the footballing World would look like if they did this for every team.

Now we can't raid their youth team anymore... wenger needs to find a new source of 15 year old talent.

Kind of a big deal as they are going to be missing Puyol next year. Not much backup in the defense. Will they move to 3 defenders in the back?

Barca's statement is one of the most arrogant things I've ever read in my life. Especially point 12.

They're not saying they didn't break the law. They're merely saying that they should be exempt from it. :D
