Green Font: A solid chance Dantoni back as coach next year

D’Antoni has one more guaranteed season left on his Lakers contract, and the club is leaning toward retaining him despite some privately disgruntled players and massive public disdain. It’s not clear which way the organization will go with him.

I'm sorry I couldn't stomach another season of Dantoni coaching us. Its time to move on from this horrid 2 years of him coaching period. It will probably happen anyway but man this would be just awful in my opinion :o

All things point to us not shaking the boat too much next season and concentrating on 2015 and 2016, which is a very welcome idea. If we draft a swing man or a stretch 4, D'Antoni might be a great confidence boost for the rookie.

no self respecting FA will want to be a part of this mess if we retain Antoni for another year. Guy does not know how to treat his players, he cold/hot on players as players are hot/cold with their shot. I dont really care where Kaman ends up next season but the way he's been treated and Hill, how can anyone still support this Coach is beyond me. He treated Pau like dog crap last season, some of it is deserved by Pau but Pringles was already disprecting Pau as soon as he arrived with his comments and actions towards Pau most notably when he answer "cause I wanted to win" when asked why he didn't insert Pau back into the lineup during a game.

Some of you guys are so reactionary that I fear for you if we actually DO have a crisis and end up with 3-4 losing seasons on a run. Times like these are when I admire the Knicks, Raptors and Bucks fans.

Next year starting line-up:

Nash-Meeks-Kobe-Kelly-Sacre - Championship !

We draft some rookie that can't shoot and he'll play in garbage time. Great.

On a serious note, I don't expect D'Antoni back next year. His faith was decided after Kobe's press conference a few weeks ago.

They're also not used to having a winning culture so they just ignore the losing.

I kind of saw this coming though. Instead of bringing in a coach to a losing atmosphere it is probably best to just ride out D'Antoni's contract and let him be the scape goat for whatever might go wrong next season. Similar to how Knicls, Bucks, and Raptors fans are used to losing I'm sure D'Antoni is used to the criticism from big market media by now. I don't think anything phases him at this point so he can endure another season similar to this one if it happens.

So I do agree that people need to chill out. Even if we brought in Greg Popovich, we weren't going to win a championship with this current personnel.

Man, seeing Steve Clifford succeed in Charlotte really makes me mad that we didn't keep him and groom him as our next head coach of the future, a la Pop, Doc (Celtics), Thibs.

keeping him another years mean another team built probably with his offense in mind. What happens after next season? We cant keep a revolving door for players like this, we need something to build on, SA is not some sort of talent lvl power house guys, majority of their role players are mainly castaways who weren't wanted or needed by their prior team. Those SA players adapt to Pop style and not the other way around like we're doing here with Pringles.

So you are saying that MDA is adapting to the players' style? Do you really think he likes doing it anyways? Popovic has himself said that he stole a lot of the pick and roll schemes from the SSOL Suns teams.

With the new CBA and especially the risks we have taken since then, there was always a very good likelihood that we were going to be humbled for the first time and it might be like this for a while after we decided to double down on Kobe by offering him an extension. We just have to live with it and learn from those mistakes.

The NBA used to be capitalistic market for the big fish to dominate but the new CBA has forced it to be something else, which I don't want to put in words.

You never know man. He could be gone as well especially if he's offered more money by a contending team.

Gonna end up the worst Lakers season in team history
Alientated players on the team
Isnt a confortational person with own players
Only focuses on one end of the court

Sometimes its not about winning a championship every single season... Its more about putting a respectable product on the court and a coach who can LEAD. Also to make the playoffs next season. I seriously doubt we end up worst record wise next season unless Kobe gets hurt again. This isnt a good match and to keep this guy as a coach for another season would give a bad impression to fans. Some people feel if the front office doesnt care why should they care. I love my Lakers more than anything and even I would find it a HUGE negative to not just put this era of Lakers basketball on the back burner. Lets MOVE on as soon as this season is over

We could have done that w/ Shaw or even Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff won 6 or 7 games as the interim head coach.
