I think it's a case of Boston fans wanting to make themselves feel better (and I swear I don't mean that in a bad way). Rajon Rondo is a very good player and this is just demonstrating that even a Celtics legend like Paul Pierce didn't really have much early success. It's a way of saying that Rondo has lots of time left to do great things.

Having said all of that, Rondo is not in the same league as Paul Pierce in terms of impact on the game. He needs great players around him. PP in his heyday can put a team on his back and win games. Rondo just doesn't have the offensive game to do that.
