My personal opinion is that Ryan Goins is of no use as a utility infielder or in a platoon. If they aren't going to sign a 2B (which looks likely), and Izturis can get back to anywhere resembling a career norm, then you roll with him full-time. Then you either give Diaz the utility infielder role because of his range/arm compared to Kawasaki and the title of late game defensive replacement.
Then you try and find a 4th OF who can also play CF...
Maicer looks more like the guy they brought in to be a utility guy, but I'm still not loving him as a full time 2B. Goins looks overmatached so far at the plate, much like many had advocated he would.
I have a feeling they'll give Goins a good chance to keep his job, they seem enamoured with his defensive presence.
