it would be incredibly odd timing for this to have become a done deal while he's in the final four and i would also be shocked if the lakers pursued this right now while the season is still going on and MDA still has the job. doesn't seem like their style at all.

He's just a year younger than Phil... It seems like an odd fit and a late transition to the pros for a NCAA coach.

He's 55, are you confusing him with coach K?

No I misread... Thought 'Cal's Coach' Montgomery...

Damn sinus infection...

Coach Cal seemed so unrealistic it never crossed my mind.

TBH, I can't tell you what their style is or is not anymore. We'll see, but management wise (and I mean as an aspect running the team, not as a synonym for the FO) Mitch and Jimmy have been a little all over the place.

The Mike Brown hiring, firing, PJ rumors, MDA, the tone deaf timing of the CP3 "trade", trading for Howard and ultimately not being able to retain him, various firings/dealing with trades and not "calling" Kobe first, the timing of Kobe's extension...etc etc-- point is I put nothing past this team to surprise us.

To me a lot of these decisions have the vibe of extreme secrecy, like Mitch and Jim spend so much time together in one room tinkering and plotting

We'll see which pile we can toss this rumor into.

What would we think of this from a basketball perspective?

Not really feeling Calipari either... I think his style might be a little micromanagy and abrasive for the Pros.

It's an upgrade of MDA.

Also, he's a GREAT recruiter.

Plus, his Kentucky boy's love him, maybe some of them will come to us now?

Coach Cal was the first coach to put Kobe on the NBA radar with GMs. Dude has got scouting skills out of this world. Too bad he got talked out of a sure thing by Jerry West.

Good. That guy is just a glorified salesman. Don't think it works on the NBA level where the players are paid legally.

I have a funny feeling about this one... They'd have to deny it right now if it was true...

And it's the kind of out of nowhere move the Lakers tend to make... And Coach Cal does have the kind of personality LA is used to...

Not a fan of the move, but not sure I believe the denials yet either...
