PFs that are a better fit for THIS team...
Faried, Tristin Thompson, Bosh, Henson, Anthony Davis, Ibaka, Thad Young, Nene.
I would even consider a deal for a of SFs like Leonard.
Signing G.M. is the right thing to do (even if it's a S&T)... but have no disillusions that he work contribute enough offensively to compensation for lack defense & hustle.
What deals are actually possible?
I'd give the least likely chance at Anthony Davis (willing to part with Monroe + anyone not named Drummond and a 1st rounder)... but yeah scratch that.
Monroe for Bennet & Thompson (they need a 5)
Monroe and pick for Ibaka (they need a future center)
Monroe for Thad Young
Monroe for Kawi Leonard & Splitter (TD's near the end)
Nene str8 up
Monroe for Henson & Ilyasova.
Monroe & Jennings for Bosh
It's not just about talent... it's more about who matches with Drumond better.
Monroe will be in demand and there will be good players available.
Ant Davis, Ibaka or Bosh arent even in the atmosphere of realistic.
Faried shoots 37% outside of 5 feet.
Thompson shoots 39% outside of 5 feet (& has taken 331 shots outside of 5 feet)
John Henson shoots 33% outside of 5 feet (& has only taken 239 shots outside of 5 feet)
Thad Young shoots 33% outside of 5 feet & has very similar #s in his midrange game as Josh Smith (33% yet still has taken 124 jumpers)
Nene is the only one from your list who can even shoot at all. He shoots 29% from 5-9 feet, but 39% from 10-14 feet & 44% on 131 attempts from 15-19 feet.
Nene is gonna be 32 this year. lol
I was asked who would be a stretch 4 better than Monroe... this is the answer... stretch 4 does not have to translate into 3 point range.
I already said Davis is not likely.
For Ibaka & Bosh this depends on how their team does in the playoff... are you overvaluing Monroe or undervaluing him this time?... do big names get traded?... every single year.
Thompson, Faried, Henson & Young all shoot better than Monroe... Henson, Faried & Thompson are excellent P&R defenders with mobility to contribute in ways that G.M. is not capable of... a lot of these things won't show up in your stats (altering shots, loose balls, forcing bad passes etc.)
Young is hardly perfect yet he's still a better fit.
I did not realize Nene was that old... fair enough... scratch
Listen man, if you want to believe that Monroe's liabilities can be overcome that's your call... I'll choose to continue to look for alternatives.
Fantastic post.
