His whole "chip on my shoulder" attitude is likely due in part to his journeyman career thus far. There's a chance (albeit a small one) that he will feel validated after "making it" and start to let up a bit.

I would say its unlikely, but perhaps they could add performance incentives to his contract; e.g.

$3m base
+5rb/gm bonus
+40%3pt bonus
+defensive team bonus

Not sure if it works that way but it would seem the smart way to keep the motivation and hunger up. Challenge him to reach that next level defensively.

I have this same concern with Gerald Green, not Tucker.[/quote

Yes. I'd be concerned about Green and even the Morris twins.

As someone said, 4 years 15-18mil would be perfect. I cant see him turning that down. We probably could offer 18 just for the fact that he has been grossly underpaid for the last two seasons

I wouldn't give him more than what we gave Dudley back then.

We gave Dudley $4.25M per year for five years or $21.25M

This thread will be a roller coaster depending on PJ's last game.

What his detractors are not understanding is the level of leadership and guidance that he is showing on this team. Hornacek said the other day that he is the main leader along with Frye and often Hornacek and the other coaches don't have to say anything becaue Tucker and Frye are already saying it.

This stuff goes beyond statistics..

PJ Tucker deserves a midterm to longterm contract in the range of $3M to $5M per year. That is a fair range considering his contributions on defense, rebounding, toughness and ability to knock down open shots.

Yea I think I would probably go as high as something like that.

Frye doesn't have any credibility when he talks. Tucker does because when he says play defense and rebounds, he actually goes out there and plays defense and rebounds at a high level.

What is something that Frye can say with credibility? "Guys lets get good plus minus numbers!!" ...yea not sure that's gonna motivate a locker room much.

Other than being the oldest on the team, Frye lacks any sort of credibility imo.
