Unrealistic expectations

Most times fans have unrealistic expectations and then they get mad when their unrealistic expectations are not met. I keep seeing this and it is so **** annoying. Like a couple of weeks ago in the Toney Douglas thread people were already asking for Chalmers or Cole to be traded.

I would like to set some REALISTIC expectations for most of the Heat's players, also adding what I find the most frustrating about them, with the mention that most of the time I just take the good with the bad:

Chalmers

Very polarizing player, tends to be accused of dumb plays and gets a lot of **** and too little recognition for the things he does well.

He's not consistent (if he was, he wouldn't be a role player), and he makes the occasional dumb plays, but you can count on him coming up big in big moments. He thrives under pressure and you can bet he'll have a few great games in the playoffs. He reminds me of Cassell - he should adopt the big balls dance (and the league should stop banning players for doing it) - only with slightly worse decision making.

Bosh

Gets a ton of crap for his supposed lack of toughness and rebounding. Just check again how many rebounds 7'2 Hibbert had against Haslem. ONE !!!! Check out how many rebounds 7'2 Lopez averaged. Then check his D and how the system contributes to his low rebounding numbers.

The most frustrating part about Bosh is that he used to make one careless pass per game that resulted in a turnover. He's cut down on those, but he still does it from time to time just because he's too careless.

Lebron

Not gonna complain about Lebron (too much), but I don't like it when he pounds the ball too much beyond the 3p line. Reminds me of his Cavs days. He should be posting up more. Also sometimes he's trying to burn time off the clock when there's way too much time left and/or the difference is too small. He should instead try to make a play instead of holding for a last second bad shot.

Haslem

His jumper might be off, his athleticism has diminished, he might not be the player he was, but the heart is there. After all the sacrifices he's done for the team, there's NOTHING he can do on the court that would make me complain about him.

Cole

He is a backup PG. He'll be hot sometimes, he'll be cold other times. Sometimes he'll make mistakes. He's still young and his ceiling isn't that high. Don't expect him to play like a star. Expect inconsistency just like for Chalmers.

Toney Douglas

Good D, he's gonna make dumb plays as well. See above.


Lewis

I considered him massively overpaid the second I learned about his contract with the Magic. He was a good role player, but not a star. Now he's lost most of his athleticism, and seems to have lost most of his confidence. MAKE A **** LAYUP !!!!!

Ray Allen

He's old and slow and can't defend anybody and his shot isn't consistent. If Ray Allen isn't consistent, I don't see how you'd expect Chalmers or Cole to be consistent. But I already knew all these when Ray Allen came to the Heat, and the fact that he delivered on the biggest 3p shot in the history of the game means I there's almost nothing he could do on the court to actually make me mad at him.

So that's my little rant about managing your expectations.
As a general rule, don't complain about lack of consistency in role players, especially those who aren't really veterans (8+ seasons), and just take the good with the bad. No player is perfect, and especially role players have some weaknesses, otherwise they'd be stars, not role players.

You have to use the players you have. Most of us here know their flaws and weaknesses as well as their strengths and basketball IQ's.

Ray Allen was a great pickup - his bball IQ is high; he's been to the post season so many times. True, his defense is lacking, but dam hell - he's a shooter and has always been a shooter. No GM signs ray allen for his D.

Yeah, that's why every other day a new thread pops up complaining about Chalmers or Haslem or Cole or Bosh or wanting one of them traded because Douglas had a good game or because Bosh only got 5 reb last game. I still remember someone wanting to replace Bosh with Omer **** Asik.
