3rd Seed

Post#1 » by KyletheDingbat » Sat Apr 12, 2014 3:30 am

Congrats on the third seed Clippers! We'll play either GS, Dallas, Memphis or Phoenix. All those teams are within a game and a half of each other as of this post. How do you like our chances against these teams? M thoughts:

Clips/GS: Clips in 5
Clips/Memphis: Clips in 4
Clips/Phoenix: Clips in 6
Clips/Dallas: Clips in 6

If we face Memphis I think we run them out of the gym with a vengeance.

Right now it's looking like the Warriors.

Golden State has a 2-1 advantage over the Blazers and they play each other tomorrow. Portland is currently ahead by 2.5 games (2 game adv. in loss column). If GSW win out (Portland, Minny & Denver), Portland could drop down to 6th if we beat them on Wednesday as well.

Dallas is 1.5 games behind Golden State (down 2 in loss column). Golden State owns the tiebreaker. Golden State would have to lose their final 3 with Dallas winning out (Phoenix & Memphis) for Dallas to overtake them for the 6th seed.

Memphis trails Golden State by 2 games (down 2 in loss column). Memphis would have to win out (Lakers, Phoenix & Dallas) with GSW dropping their final 3 and then I'm still not sure who would have the tiebreaker. In that event, whoever had the better winning percentage against playoff teams would get the higher seed.

Phoenix trails Golden State by 2 games (down 2 in loss column). Phoenix would have to win out (Dallas, Memphis & Sacramento) and The Warriors could win no more than 1 game. This would lead to a tie, and once again it would come down to winning percentage against playoff teams. I haven't looked that up, so their best bet would be to win out and for Golden State to lose out.

hmmmmm hold on here.

all teams play the same amount of 82 games per regular season.

if more than 1 team have identical records, don't they have the same winning percentage? 50-32 is 50-32 no matter how you look at it.

or do you mean the winning % of the opposition they played against?

oh never mind. i caught my mistake with this quote

Winning percentage against western conference playoff teams.

e.g. Team A is 18-9 (.667) vs WC playoff teams and Team B is 17-8 (.680) vs WC playoff teams. Team B would win the tiebreaker.

If that percentage is equal, then it is decided against the winning percentage against eastern conference playoff teams followed by net points for all games.

More than likely, it doesn't get that complicated, but the possibility is there.

Congrats all around to ownership, Doc and his staff, & to the guys who suit-up every night; they've beaten a lot of demons out of this franchise during this season...and for that, I am grateful.

Golden State or Phoenix...neither series would last for more than 5 games.
Dallas or Memphis...these two teams know how to play grown-man basketball. We don't escape the first-round if we get Memphis (unless CP3 channels his inner Isiah Thomas). I wouldn't feel great about going-up against Dirk either; you know, the only guy outside of Olajuwon to drag his team to a championship by himself.

Fortunately, it looks like we're getting Golden State in the first-round, so the Clippers should be fairly well rested for the 2nd-round this time, where the real playoffs will begin.

Since Dallas took out Phoenix tonight, Dallas has clinched a playoff berth. We can totally cross Phoenix out of our list of potential opponents. They still have slight hope for the 8th seed, but it will take some help from Dallas (or the "player hating" Lakers). With Dirk having a scare tonight, they're going to want their rest more than anything. A win over Memphis would put them in a more favorable match-up, but Dirk's health is more important than any of that.

I kind of wanted to see the Suns make the playoffs. I have enjoyed watching them for the most part and it would have meant that Memphis likely went fishing early, which would have been hilarious imo. Some people are expecting Memphis to give San Antonio a little trouble, but they seem to be forgetting that they were swept by the Spurs last postseason and were swept this season as well.

why so confident? golden state has a really good team that has underachieved this year. They did the same thing last year and ended up beating the 3rd seeded nuggets as the 6th seed.

Surprisingly they are a defensive team, contrary to their reputation over the last while. But when and if you have a healthy igoudala and bogut in the lineup, you're gonna be solid defensively

i'm not saying the clippers won't beat them, but that GS is the team that scares me the most. All it takes is thompson and curry to get stupid hot and bam, they steal a game or two. Add in the fact that their bench is one of their weaknesses, but in the playoffs, that factor is minimized by playing starters longer

Bare in mind that those Nuggets were your A typical over-achieving Regular Season teams,Clippers under Doc this year should be able to beat GSW.

They are the scariest team to be facing if we had to choose though but if we can't beat the 6th seed we shouldn't be thinking about WCF at all. We are much better than you're giving us credit for, don't worry.

Okay, so Phoenix is out in terms of the 6th seed since their max wins now is 49 and Dallas already has 49 and has the tie breaker

I hope PHX gets in for Bledsoe. Even though they'd get bounced by SanAn, I hope they get in

I just think they will be a fun team in the playoffs. I'd rather them get in than Memphis

Dallas is only a half game back of them. Could be Dallas or GS for us. Neither would concern me the least bit

I honestly believe if somehow the Suns make it in over Memphis they could give the Spurs a run for their money. They led by double digits in San An just this past week and its mainly do to their younger and more athletic legs compared to a Memphis.

I just read that Bogut is out indefinitely with a rib injury. So if we do indeed play the Warriors they will be missing one of their defensive anchors. Honestly if we play Golden State or Dallas, I don't see either series being easy. I would expect us to win, but not easily. And I would be afraid of Dirk going off and being unstoppable, but it depends on how good he's feeling at this stage of his career.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

if OKC loses to the pistons and we win our next two.

we'd have a conference record of 37-15 and they would have a record of 36-16.
