Randy Wittman Coach of the Year?

Post#1 » by milellie111 » Tue Apr 15, 2014 1:23 pm

Considering record of the Wizards the past couple of seasons, their oppurtunity to get 44 wins this year and grab the 6th seed, no one can deny the fact that the team is on an upswing. If this team meets either Toronto/Chicago in the first round and advance to the second round (which is not far fetched), would Wittman be considered a candidate for coach of the year? True, he started out with some growing pains but seems to have stabilized into a leader that the players respect and has this team winning.

Its going to Popovich, Thibs or Hornacek just cause Phoenix was not supposed to be where they are this year even though there not going to the POs. They would be a 3 seed in the east. Talent got us to the playoffs not crappy elementary coaching.

Not taking anything away from Pop, but San Antonio has always been good. I think Wittman would deserve it more because of the massive improvement of the Wizards.

The Knicks have more talent than the Wizards, however they aren't going to the playoffs. Woodson is terrible. I think you still have to be a good coach, even with talent.

Randy Wittman will go straight to the HOF. He should retire now so he is eligible.

I think the wizards a lot of the time in spite of Randy. He helps defensively....but I don't know what other redeeming quality he has as a coach.

His offensive system is bleh, his rotations can get weird, he bleeds leads away, terrible with TOs, has major gaffs an NBA coach shouldn't have in end game scenarios....like....how could anyone actually want him as HC anymore is beyond me.

Seeing as most people might consider him the worst coach in the league, I'd say probably not.

Millie - I think you are absolutely right on this one. He is clearly deserving of a multi-year contract extension.

After all, coaches matter - GMs don't - and Randy has brought us back into the playoffs. He has clearly been worth about 8 games to this team. They wouldn't be in the playoffs without him.

This reminds me of the Eddie Jordan days. Eddie Jordan was arguably even a worse coach but probably had even more supporters than Wittman does.

Ted is cheap. He wont even get us a legitimate coach. Theres plenty of qualified coaches out there but of course he doesnt want to pay. From wikipedia "Wittman then served as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers for two seasons, (1999–2001), compiling a record of 62-102.On December 8, 2008, club owner Glen Taylor fired Wittman after a 4-19 start, asking Kevin McHale to step in." Just because Whitman is a so called "tough guy disciplinarian" doesnt make him a coach. I guarantee you a good legitimate NBA coach can get more and develop vessely, booker and singleton better than someone who is not qualified. But of course, all of this starts from the top and it doesnt seem as if Ted really cares about this team being serious. Seems to me he's just another fat rich guy who was bored and wanted a hobby so he decided to buy a basketball team to play around with.

Eh...He's a darkhorse candidate. If he wins, he better perform well during the playoffs cause COY is not guaranteed for job security. Just ask Mike Brown and George Karl.

I recall a stretch where the Wizards went 24-8 with Eddie Jordan coaching.

With marginal talent EJ coached the Wizards to 40 wins plus 4 straight seasons. Each was a playoff season.

He also coached around many injuries to his key players.

How about posting a link to the thread where you quoted me from Mr "I would like to make things appear one way"?

http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=34553734#p34553734

Notice, that was from a game thread i posted in February 1, 2013 when the Wizards were 11-34 at the time and suffered a sloppy heartbreaking loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in the middle of a 4 game losing streak. Less than 2 months before that i watched this team go on a streak of 1-13!! The 180 degree turnaround and roster change this team has performed this year has ignited a new enthusiam and fire in me and it should do the same for all Wizards fans. Sure, a fan was negative when the team was terrible, that same fan is positive when the team is doing well. But hey, i've already explained this same thing to you in the other thread when you tried to pull the same thing but you insist on residing in ignorance.

I think a real troll is coming into a thread and not adding anything constructive, remaining negative even when the team is doing well, quoting someone but not all of the context to slant peoples viewpoint, and having one of the dumbest most immature user avatar pics on the forum. This describes you TGW.

The Knicks have more talent than the Wizards

That's debatable.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
