There's no reason to trade Jennings. But give me a minute to figure one out, I'll be open minded.

He's a better defender, but their playmaking is about even, and Jennings is a much better 3 pt shooter.
You would basically just be trading 3 pt shooting for defense, and being that this team needs both equally, I'm not sure you would really gain anything.
I think the best PG for this team might be a defensive guy who is a threat from 3, and might not be the best playmaker, but knows how to run an offense and doesn't turn it over.
Some might say we had that in Knight, but he had no clue how to run an offense.
1) rubio's FG% is underwhelming albiet his scoring is efficient. the dude only takes 8 shots a game netting almost 10 points each night. he knows he's limited as a scorer, but he's insanely gifted as a passer, so he simply plays to his strengths unlike jennings who averages 6 more shot attempts which translate to only 6 more points. also, rubio averages one more assist than jennings despite having a 7% disadvantage in their respected usage rates (rubio 16.4%, jennings 23.4%)
2) jennings is a mediocre 3 point shooter who thinks he can drain it from anywhere at any time (not too much unlike his buddy). 34% isn't a bad percentage, but when you take into account the fact that he's taking nearly 6 a game and basically sparking easy fast break opportunities for the other team, you have to draw the line. again, rubio understands both his limitations in his shooting ability as well as the consequences of bad shots, so he only takes 1.6 3's a game. give me the guy that will do everything to find drumroe or an open shooter over the guy who's already thinking about a stepback jumper with 20 seconds on the shot clock.
3) DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE...DEFENSE.
how can you even put rubio and jennings in the same stratosphere of running an offense? you can win with one guy. you can win the lottery with the other.
also, you basically described chauncey at the end of your post...

You need the PG to at least have a 3-point shot. He doesn't have to be an insanely ball dominant player, but he has to be able to keep the defense honest.
jakebernat wrote:this is seriously shocking to me that you guys wouldn't unanimously prefer rubio over jennings.
ImHeisenberg wrote:but, that simply is not the case. Rubio isn't hitting the open market, and Detroit isn't going to be chasing him as a restricted free agent or in a trade anyways.

jason kidd arguably never developed a great outside shot...

well rubio and the wolves are reportedly at odds over his next contract's size, and with love's future murky as ever, there's a chance they could look to clean house. that's the only reason i even brought up the possibility of adding rubio. now i have people telling me that he and jennings are basically the same tier of point guard...
ImHeisenberg wrote:Besides the 4 seasons he shot over 40% from 3? Or the 10 seasons he shot 35+%?
Kidd was a lights out 3-point shooter when he was in his second stint in Dallas. Coincidentally, also the same time he won a championship.

They're certainly not the same player. I read about Rubio's agent wanting a 10+ million contract. I doubt he finds that on the open market.

Let me know when Rubio can hold a candle to Kidd.
