Re: 2014 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Matt Boyd went out and dominated a third straight start: 5 IP, 5 hits (four singles and a double), 1 walk, 7 strikeouts. That's 12 scoreless innings and a 16:1 K:BB to start the year.
Ryan Schimpf, everyone's favourite midget homer-and-strikeout artist, has not shockingly started the year hitting homers and striking out. Doubtful that he hits .500 on balls in play the rest of the way, though.
Deck McGuire did not look like ass. Well, his pitching line didn't, at least.

I'm hoping they give Boyd a quick bump.
As a flyball pitcher without overwhelming stuff, the EL should provide the first real litmus test for him... he can probably coast through the FSL without too much challenge, similar to Nolin and Deck.
Andy Burns is really struggling to get going, which is a bit surprising... he finished the year off nicely and had a solid showing in the fall.

Last night's Sign of the Apocalypse:
Gustavo Pierre drew a walk
After drawing 4 in all of 2014 (or one walk for every 108 plate appearances) he has drawn two so far through 35.

Rehab report:
Janssen pitched a scoreless inning for Dunedin gave up a hit and struck out a batter.
Reyes has gone to the plate three times and walked once. He also reach 2nd on a popup to short that the wind caused problems with.

Pretty sure my chance of getting Raptured depends on everyone else not doing a bit of pre-Rapture life cleanup, so shush.

Re: 2014 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Stroman dealing so far for the Bisons... 6 strikeouts through 3 innings.... four of them were looking and it sounds like his slider is especially dirty tonight.
Only 43 pitches so far, 33 for strikes... I'll say this about the kid, he throws a tonne of strikes.
edit... Stroman done now with one out in the sixth. Finished with 9Ks, no walks, 5 singles allowed.
94 pitches, 67 for strikes. The pitch count was primarily elevated due to a 20 pitch first and 27 pitch fourth.

Really impressive outing from many of our hitting prospects:
dj davis 2/3, bunt single, and double
matt dean, first homer of the season
nay, 1/1
Emlio Guerrero is on fire, I loved his swing in spring training, he's also been recognized as a real prospect by chris King, BP scout, he hit another home run today.
Lastly, pompey continues to get on base.

Guerrero is definitely worth keeping an eye on... he started to display some real pop last year, and you gotta figure he's going to grow into that 6-4 frame.
Both Pompey and him have a chance to really increase their stock this year.

Re: 2014 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Solid outings from De Jong and Cardona in the second game of their double-header.
De Jong allowed only 2 hits and stuck out 4 in his 4 innings.
Cardona finished the last two innings with six ground ball outs around two singles.
Labourt and Tirado had rough outings again in the first game with 8 walks between them, although Tirado had 6 Ks in his three innings.

Stroman in 3 starts so far: 1.17 ERA, 15.1 IP, 12 H, 6 BB, 21 K, 0 HR
Five of those walks came in one start. No home runs allowed is a positive, and obviously he is still missing bats, which is a great sign.

Good news for a high minor leagues prospect for once. After Deck/Jenkins/Drabek/Perez, well everyone but Hutch, I was ready to choke someone down at Blue Jays Way.

At this point I'm convinced that he can be an average or better major league starter if he keeps the home runs down. Good sign that he hasn't been taken deep yet, small sample be damned.

Marcus Stroman reminds me of Kyle Lowry. He's got that undersized bulldog in him. And he even kinda looks like him.

Except that Stroman is actually short and Lowry just looks under-sized 'cause he plays with giants.
I do know what you mean though.

Re: 2014 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Jays can do whatever they want with Sanchez, but he'll be in double A until he dominates the level. The best case scenario (if you want him called up) would be a direct call-up from double a after several low walk high strikeout games at this level, as his control is his major issue at this point.
I don't think you'll see him this year, however. My best guess is that he'll be available next year half way through the year, as they'll prefer he get at least half a year of triple A under his belt.
That said, injury/poor performance could see them accelerate this schedule. Hopefully he stays healthy and gets his shot soon.
