Agreed. That's why I think they'd have a shot in the East of making the playoffs

Philly is actually fine with tanking one more year as we lose our pick if we make the playoffs. So we land high lotto again and either add a better SG if LaVine busts out, or a young long PF to replace Young.

Agreed but only so he could get his draft stock higher. I'm a big fan of his, but I think he'll slide to late first. He needs to get in a good solid organization that can bring him along slowly - playing him only a few minutes a game but encouraging him to be very aggressive when he is in the game. And some D League action might do him some good in building his confidence.

I agree with Dukenukem23 above. You cannot make the argument that he's going to be a bust just because he wasn't a starter. If you follow UCLA basketball, or even casually watch some games, you know that Steve Alford started his son over LaVine, with controversy attached. If you want take a peek at SB nations Bruins Nation and you will see that this has been an all-season bewilderment as to why LaVine was not playing more. Bryce Alford was steady but anybody watching knows there is a huge discrepancy in talent between the two.

I do disagree with Dukenukem23 (to each his own) that Zach LaVine will be a bust. But maybe I am biased because I am a huge UCLA fan/Alum and I watch every, yes EVERY, UCLA basketball game of the season. LaVine did end the season on a skid, but he is young, and lost a little zest as he lost playing time. However if you watched him, you realized he was very often the most talented/explosive player on the court. He still needs refining ( I hope he goes to a team that properly develops) but there is a reason many people were mocking he go in the top 10. Now I do not think he will go top 10, but whatever team takes him has a player that can be in the league a very long time with very elite athleticism. He is a more than decent ball handler, has a decent shot, and plays good D. So bust? Maybe if you expect him to be Westbrook, but imo, no way this kid never has an NBA career and fades into anonymity.

LaVine's stats are undrafted free agent level, he was a nobody recruit out of high school, he can't rebound, he can't pass, he can't dribble, he can't finish, he can't defend. Him going in the lottery would be pretty ridiculous.

scout and rivals rated him as a 4 star prospect. He was rated a top 45 player in his class and received offers from UCLA, USC, ARIZONA, CAL, TEXAS, LOUISVILLE, MEMPHIS, BAYLOR, WASHINGTON, GONZAGA, OREGON STATE, TENNESSEE, WASHINGTON STATE, and COLORADO. How was he a nobody recruit?

I guess I am done defending LaVine for the day. He is going to be drafted contrary to your player "analysis" above.

didn't leave till after his sophmore season which he did start in.

yes. that year he was playing behind afflalo and collison, and he was erratic as erratic could be. he had to start for collison when dc was out and he was humiliated against west virginia.

Who cares about Lavine's college accomplishments?

Players have been entering the NBA without being ready to contribute for decades. Teams have 15 roster slots, there's space to have a couple of developmental projects.

I find it dubious Lavine would have develop so much under Alford next season anyway. Better to get in the NBA, get plenty of good coaching, some D-League time, some NBA floor time if the team is rocked by injuries and just focus on developing his skills.
