Not quite, gasol loves living in LA. I could see him signing an inflated one year deal with the lakers if they strike out with the 2014 nba free agent class. The odds increase if D'antoni gets canned. Lakers may offer gasol 15-20M on a one year deal so they will have cap space to go after kevin love or lamarcus aldridge in 2015.

Knicks need to stop thinking they can trade D leaguers for stars and thinking they can sign stars for peanuts.

Doubt it. Gasol hates how the Lakers and Kobe have been treating him and I guarantee he will take less money somewhere else just to stay away from them.

Who said anything about a trade? This is a free agent signing. You don't TRADE anyone away to sign a free agent unless it is a sign and trade deal, which is not the case here.
Also Gasol is looking for a way out of LAL but still stay in a big market/contender, so he will take less money to do it. That's why this offer with the Knicks makes sense. Many veteran players who are worth much more take less money like this late in their careers to try to stay on winning teams / go for the championship. The only other team I think that has legit competition with the Knicks and Phil Jackson is Memphis. He may sign there for cheap to try to help his bro win a championship, as others have mentioned. Other than that this contract is reasonable given his current goals and age.

many many many teams have traded away players in order to open a roster spot to sign a free agent without doing a sign and trade
