So the Bulls could have a healthy Rose next year, Mirotic (sp) might come over, they might be able to sign a max fa after amnestying Boozer and they have two first round picks.

The Wizards on the other hand......

Can I also add to give this thread a rest after a win. Dude your a moron constantly trolling and looking for responses while most of us are trying to enjoy the win. Get over your thread and give it a rest cause you only post here and your other pointless trolling threads. Give it a playoff rest and come back to it when the season is over. If Ariza and Gortat don't re-sign here Im going to s*** all over this thread in the offseason.

How am I trolling? I am just calling a spade a spade. If the Wizards looked terrible last night, no doubt the "Fire Ernie, Fire Wittman" threads would be in full force. So when something positive happens last night and our roster achieves what it was built to do, why not give credit where it's due?

I'll cry then s*** all over this thread cause I think we'd make a mistake and I don't think we should re-sign either. I'd hope to S&T both, I don't want Gortat in the back side of his prime (Going through that with Nene now) and I don't want Ariza after signing a deal (saw what happen in Houston, after he got the money he sucked bad in Hou and NO) unless Webster gets the gate.

Gortat and Ariza can play at a high level for at least 5 more years so there is no caution with signing them. Also they have stayed relatively healthy.

You continue to post messages in the hope of attracting hostile responses - which you do quite well.

Hostile? In no way am I posting with hostility nor trying to get hostile responses. I am excited about the win just as everyone else is. What reason is there to be hostile? Again, how can you celebrate the teams success and cheer for them stealing an away game against a good defensive team, but not respect the man who put it all together?

Yes, you are posting in order to get hostile responses - and that is fine - the message board is open to all posters.

If you want to celebrate with everyone, you would have watched the game and posted in the game thread.

Happy to keep the thread alive now that it drives hands nuts :)

So, if the Zards don't re-sign Gortat and Ariza--two of its most productive players this season--what's your solution for keeping the team headed in the right direction and not having it go back to a 30-35 win team?

And what evidence do you have that the Gortat is anything like Nene when he doesn't have anything close to Nene's injury history, or that Ariza won't keep playing at a high-level for at least the next 2-3 years?

Which is exactly why so many of us aren't impressed with where we are right now. Resigning both guys so that we can continue to be an average team (assuming good health) isn't that attractive either.

I agree DCZards. I mean, I've made it clear that I don't like the way they've built this roster, BUT the best path forward to maintaining their status as a playoff team is to re-sign Gortat and Ariza. Then go shopping with the MLE for some depth guys, and/or trade Webster for something. I still wouldn't like the overall construction -- an aging frontcourt with a young backcourt. But if they just dump the older guys they'd have to find viable replacement, and they really wouldn't have as much to work with to do the replacing. Best move will probably be to re-acquire the free agents and hope Gortat and Nenê can be productive for another couple years, and that Ariza's regression to his previous norms isn't too savage. And hope that Wall and Beal (and Porter) become as good as their potential suggests they could be.

Who say's they're average? If they Wizards get to the ECF (which is not far fetched) are they still average? What about the Finals? You haven't even let the playoffs end yet and we're up 1-0 in the series and you've already predicted we're an "average" team swept in the first round.

14th best record in the league in a weak conference = average

Beating a team that doesn't have it's two leading scorers from the opening day roster does not change the fact that they are average.

So what makes you so sure that we will continue to be "average" if we resign Gortat and Ariza? Are you saying that Wall and Beal have already reached their prime and will not get any better? Are you saying that Gortat and Ariza will have a sudden decline within 2 years? Is Porter already written off as a bust in his rookie year? Again, you pointed out we were 14th in the league this year, what say's that our core of young guys don't get better (which is highly likely) and the team becomes better than average?

First of all other teams are going to be making tangible moves to get better, not just keeping the same players together to maintain the status quo. It is unlikely that the east will continue to be this weak year after year. So even if the team does get better that won't necesarily change their status as an average team.

And while the young guys might get better it is also possible, if not inevitable, that the vets (who carried us to last nights win) will get worse. That is usually what happens when guys get over 30. Nene has already been showing signs of slippage.

Dude there regular season record is 14/30 in the NBA, thats average and there record shows that. I don't want to end up in a situation where we re-sign everyone (Gortat/Ariza+ bench players) and the competition in the east picks up after a very down year this year and were back to mediocrity and capped out for the next 3 seasons.

That is it in a nuthouse... er nutshell. They've committed to this path, and they pretty much have to stay on it. There are burning coals on each side of the path, and Ernie's wearing torn Chuck Taylors.

So I get that you don't want to re-sign either Ariza or Gortat. But, again I ask, If you let both of them walk what's your solution for remaining at least an "average" team and not slipping back to becoming a below average team? Or are you willing to go back to being the 9th, 10th or 11th best team in the east?
