And the answer remains the same as it always has, "of course not".

Yeah, Kidd's size certainly helped him as a rebounder, but what made him truly great was his ability to always know where the ball was going to fall. His court vision was just as unreal on the defensive end as it was in transition and half-court offense, and he was a master at knowing shot angles and getting in good rebounding position.

I don't see that kind of vision with Smart, at least not yet.

While he doesn't have excellent vision, I'd say he's shown some pretty advanced play in the pick and roll/pop. He seems to be very patient when the screen comes, waiting for the defender to over commit and his teammate to get separation. It's this area that'll make him particularly dangerous in the NBA with more spacing and the frequency with which the pick and roll is played. With that being said, he does need to improve his consistency in this area.

I think he could very much excel as a P&R point guard if given the right coach and system. A guy like Thibodeau comes to mind and how he was able to mold Derrick Rose from a ball-dominant slasher into a more complete, distributing point man in CHI's system.

Like Rose though, it all hinges on whether or not Smart can improve his jumper and make defenders commit all the way out to the 3-pt line. If not, he's going to have a tough time running the P&R offense to it's full effect. I think he has the vision to do it, just don't know about his perimeter game.

Not just that. What made Kidd's great rebounding so special was he could grab a defensive rebound and often it was an instant fast break being lead by one of the best passers and court vision guy's in league history. So instead of a big man having to first rebound the ball and get an outlet pass to Kidd, he'd already have the ball and leading a break up the court.

His foul rate is impressive though - 7.7/40 in the Adriatic league, and 9.0/40 in the Eurocup (15 games).

Thought this was interesting.

In an ESPN poll of 30 NBA executives, it was Duke's Jabari Parker who racked up more votes than both Wiggins and Embiid.

A few weeks ago I ranked Parker #1 but after allot of time spent on these forums I dropped him to #3. Seems like there is no clear #1 or we have three #1 picks in this draft.

See my sig. This board appears to be in love with Wiggins as the #1 overall pick. I've seen people point to Chad Ford. Well, Parker out-paces Wiggins by a WIDE margin when I poll individuals with a basketball pedigree outside of this forum. I'll be shocked if Wiggins comes off of the board before Parker. I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if the Bucks took Parker #1 overall.

Had my over/under at 30 minutes you'd reply to that post, came in with the buzzer beater for a push.

I'd bet not many, or any, on that list have Smart over Wiggins.

If we don't get #1, I love that Parker seems to be the favorite to go #1. He's my #4 guy.

I like Parker's all around game but when I see his body it looks like UCLA Kevin Love. Now Love changed his whole body and looks over a few NBA seasons. His body just looks sluggish.

Every player has their pros and cons though.

The top 3 for me are going to bounce around quite a bit over the next few months. Wiggins, however is firmly at 4 unless I see something in Exum that sours me on him.

obviously you always go BPA that high, but Jabari and Giannis playing together would be a mess defensively. Giannis is clearly naturally a 3. Jabari CAN play the 4, but would get abused defensively.

if our new GM watches tons of tape and has Jabari/Wiggins tied, you take Wiggins 10x/10. he'll be an all-nba defender at the 2 at the very least.

I guess this is the one scenario where I can see Jabari becoming an average NBA defender. If he reshapes his body to add a ton of strength so he is no longer a defensive tweener and instead can guard NBA PFs. Then he is insanely dangerous as a stretch 4 with probably an insane low post game as well due to the added strength.

I just can't see him becoming laterally quick enough to even be an average defender against NBA SF's.

Same. Don't get me wrong; I think Jabari is a good prospect as well. But I can't help but worry that his scoring abilities may never outweigh his defensive deficiencies. The one thing that makes me continue to be interested in him is that I think Milwaukee will mold into a defense-oriented team with Giannis, Larry/Henson (assume we keep one of them), and a 3 and D PG, which might be a perfect combination to go with Jabari.

I really don't think I'll be upset as long as we take one of my top 4 (Wiggins, Embiid, Exum, Jabari). The only way I'll be upset is if we throw a curveball and take someone like Smart or Randle.

I would. That's all that matters to me. If you can't get through traffic with the ball in the halfcourt, you're a jumpshooter in the NBA. Wiggins is supposed to be more than that. He will defend, but I suspect he's going to struggle in the halfcourt in the NBA. He's on the same tier as Smart in my book. I think Smart gives me more assurances than Wiggins. I trust him more. If we say that both Smart and Wiggins will underachieve offensively, the tie-breaker would have to be defense. Smart is on another plane defensively than any of the top prospects save perhaps Embiid.

Yeah, I still think he might be best suited to bulk up and become a shorter PF playing next to a defensive anchor at C (which Larry can be if he's able to pry his head out of his ass).
