Re: Out of the box Power Forward options next year
Thad Young is a good defender he just plays out of position at the 4. Denver has a surplus of bigs all are available. Monroe is expensive and we have JV. Zach is expensive but a better fit than Monroe. Gasol would be awesome but unlikely plus Amir would have to be released.

The biggest mistake you can make is to trade a player like Ross who already has shown some potential and chemistry with the team to gamble on acquiring a big PF in replace of 2Pat. As much as big help he is for us at the 4 spot, Ross's role with the team is more important and it would be alot easier for us to find a replacement for 2Pat than it is for Ross. Either way we won't know what goes down until we see what happens this off season, where we still have a draft coming up with 2 picks at our disposal. Things have only started for this Raptors team, we aren't projected to be a serious contending team unitl 2 years from now and to see how well our young core has fought this season, i believe time and development will be the right step to make at this point.
Do you realize that you've already concluded that trading Ross is the biggest mistake this team can make without even taking into consideration what he would bring into return? What if Kevin Durant or LeBron James were available? Still no? I didn't realize that TRoss had now become the most valuable trade chip in the entire league.
We're a decent team, not a contender. If you want to improve then you can't turn every rotation player into an untouchable.
are you honestly considering that we can get Lebron or KD off a trade? Who on our roster would be worth it for the other team to give us those players? certainly not Ross, no GM in their right mind would even think about trading any of those guys for anything. Players like that are most likely only acquirable through free agency. Also we were talking about PFs, not SFs. What you lack is faith and you don't see the potential this team has moving forward, do you understand how young this team is but how far they've made it in the league? If you want to trade them then why not trade them when they peak to their highest value? You can't expect to be a contending team in one night.
I like you.

Amir and Patterson can hold down the 4 spot just fine. Plus PF is the easiest position to fill. What we need is a back up C to support Jonas and give the kid a break

Re: Out of the box Power Forward options next year
I think we keep the focus on getting bigger prototype SF to come off the bench for Ross or start for certain match-ups... Get a back-up C, not so much to give JV a break, I figure his minutes & role become larger in year 3 & 4...
If we could trade anyone of Fields, Novak, Hayes, or Hansbrough for one of those pieces without messing with our financial flexibility I'm down...
Problem is Lowry is already gonna do that by himself... I was thinking all year we could retain Lowry for 8-9m per year but now I can unfortunately see 10-12m per year more of a reality...
Retaining PP, Vasquez, & potentially extending Amir this offseason & poof there goes the flexibility...

Augh. Was that point I was trying to make really that far over your head?

Why are people insisting we get Zach Randolph, Josh Smith or Kevin Love? We don't need players of that ilk. We need depth, not stars. We have more than enough scoring, at best maybe we need a decent low post scorer off the bench, but the main concern should be defence, getting guys who are cheap who can tango with the types of players who are giving us fits this year. Mobile, long bigs. Beefy Centers. Physical guards. Hansborough, Hayes and Salmons should be replaced with these guys, maybe keep Hayes if we don't buy him out.

I would do Ross for Monroe. Then when Ross goes to Detroit, his career will go something like Ed Davis' in memphis.
Did Ed even play last night vs OKC?

I keep hearing that Denver is willing to trade their bigs and keep seeing Faried's name pop up. I haven't been following Denver, but why do people think that Faried could be on the block when he is on his rookie contract and has played well?

Raptors need interior presence and a real SF. Interior presence would be preferred!

Because someone might overpay for him. I don't get this reasoning that only scrub players should be on trade blocks. You gotta give value to get value.

How about Derrick Williams. He'd be a good "buy low" guy. He's shown in the past that he's got the range, ball handling ability and athleticism to become a scorer in the league. He's basically been put on the worst two possible teams for him developmentally -- teams with a backlog of veteran natural 4s and no one to protect the rim-- given consistent minutes to play a stretch 4 with a rim protector, I'd be surprised if he didn't produce.

I'm not too worried about our PFs but we desperately need some kind low post threat. JV did well in game 1 when our guards were cold but he's no david west or marc gasol. Other positions of need are a defensive center, a 3d SF, and a sixth man guard. I would be looking at marvin williams and nate robinson in the offseason.

lol you completely missed the point
and this team hasn't even made it far, what are u talking about? Division title? Ya didn't we win that a few years ago, look what happened after that. Winning a crappy division for one year clearly doesn't ensure long term success.

man I still feel for the guy. He's pretty much rotting on the bench behind Randolph and Gasol, when he was here he looked like he could be the first guy off the bench or even start some day. I think in the east his post game was more effective but there's so many good bigs in the West that he doesn't even have much of an impact.
I still love his game though. So smooth. He did get blocked viciously by Ibaka last game tho

It's pretty evident that we need a low post scorer. Prime example - we can't make the Nets pay for playing Pierce at the 4.

I'm really hoping that JV's defensive rotations are on point next year so we can take on a guy like Boozer. We're probably not going to get a two-way star PF, so that's probably about the best we can do.

Boozer has been consistent his whole career. The knock on him is his defense but he survived Thibs for all these years. Still wish we did the Bargs for Booz swap.
