to me, it will end like this: Tyrion will join Daenerys, they'll conquer King's Landing, and at some point she'll marry Jon and face the White Walkers together. After all is said and done, Winterfell will be only spooky ruins and Melissandre (or Bran) will live there

I believe Ned's sister told him one dying wish right before she died. We are to assume that her wish was for her to be buried in the Crypts of Winterfell, but the wish might have been for Ned to take care of Jon.

Also, in the books, Dany had a vision at the Warlock house in Qarth where she sees her brother (Prince Rhaegar) mention that there must be one more to have 3 dragons". When I read that, I knew he had 2 kids, so he might have been trying to get a third kid to have "3 dragons". Since he kidnapped Ned's sister, and after I read that vision, Jon Snow just popped in my head.

Of course the problem with this theory is that I found out it is a popular one. I doubt GRMM made it so obvious since he is all about surprises.

Anyway, I'm still reading Book 5, so I might think of other theories.

Or it could just be some random whore.
Spoiler:
he may be all about surprises, but i think in this instance i think it may be a case of it being the story's worst kept secret between fans. if anything, the surprise may be that lyanna died giving birth to twins, as opposed to just jon. **** around and it's dany who's his twin. there's been talk that jon's story is a little like luke skywalkers. of course, that isn't to say they have to be brother/sister for that to be somewhat true.
Spoiler:
Interesting...

But part of me feels that it can just be a red herring.

Spoiler:
with grrm you never know. i think it'll end up being true though.

If that "rumor" is true i can see a really cool revelation coming about between Jon Snow and another popular character in future books.

In the case of the books, if there's to be any revelation, the only person who can make the reveal is
Spoiler:
Howland Reed, Jojen Reed's father. Out the 10 participants in the Tower of Joy confrontation, Howland Reed is the only one still alive.Ned may or may not have told him, but the only way the other characters learn the truth is if Howland Reed knows and he tells somebody.
Otherwise only the readers might know while the characters don't, or it may not even be overtly revealed.

Yes, I heard this as well.

GRRM did say that all questions will be answered when the series ends. And I heard that GRRM gave the nod for these guys to put GoT on the air if they correctly answered the question of who is the mother of Jon Snow. They got it right. So at least we know that there will be an answer and there was enough evidence in the first 5 books. Even if he doesn't finish the books, the TV series will at least let us know for sure.

How are the books? Just finished season one and am thinking about adding it to my cart / potentially buying it to read on my iPhone/iPad.

I've made it a point to never read books or comics of shows I like because it generally ruins the show or movie

Examples---the hobbit/lord of the rings and Harry potter (I'm 25 so kiss my ass if u laugh at that I love that series haha) I refuse to read any game of thrones or walking dead material

They are already in season 4, so I would just watch the show. Season 4 is going to cover all of Book 3 and part of Books 4/5 it looks like.

Books are long as fck btw. Only reason I read them is because I couldn't resist finding out what happens. You can a lot more backstory and details in the books too.

There's a LOT more detail. You get a much better look into the thought process of some characters and there's more in depth focus on key characters (I wouldn't fully buy Davos' loyalty to Stannis if not for the books providing back story). If you really enjoy the show, the books are a great additional supplement but if you could live with what the show provides, then you could do with reading other stuff because the show stays close to the source material in most respects.

The only issues I have with the books are that GRRM is obsessed with describing every character's shield colors and every meal that everyone eats. You will get a 200 word description of what a character had for breakfast...it won't do anything for the story but GRRM loves that ish. I skip whole paragraphs of family emblems/banners or meal descriptions in each book...which could bite me at some point because damn near everything else is of some sort of importance. Example: In the books, there's a jester named Patchface who speaks gibberish and is considered crazy/creepy by most characters...but it turns out that he's been predicting the future with all the gibberish he speaks. He's a minor character, I don't think he's even made it onto the show, but I started to gloss over his songs and comments right up until I found out they were foretelling things (and if I hadn't seen it mentioned on a forum, I'd have read the whole series without ever knowing).

Oh god this. Even though i watched the show, and know what happens, i like to read and see the intense scenes from the book itself. But i find myself skipping those unnecessary details, especially since the show has given me all the imagery im going to need when the books shifts to castle black, or kings landing. I just picture what it looks like in the show and im good.

With a single scowl, Stannis makes a point that sell swords are dangerous when facing an opponent like Tywin who can buy enemies off and turn them against you. See Red Wedding.

I don't necessarily skip those "unnecessary" parts. I try to read every word. But I find my self asking myself "wtf did I just read" after I read those parts lol. All those details and big archaic words from Medieval Europe throw me off. I used to try to look up those words, but **** takes forever.

I usually just use what I see in the show for visual imagination. I mostly like the book for the dialogue and thoughts/feelings of the characters. And of course, the suspense and drama of what's to happen.

I'm glad I had the show, because I could never imagine places like Meeren.

Was driving to the station and Elvis Duran was talking about GOT...then got disconnected by going through an underpass...when the station picked back up they were talking about someone (a female) being killed off on a show (that she was on their show and basically said "we'll i'm dead"). Is this someone in GOT? Anyone know?
