To be fair, there were other bad calls/non calls that went Wizards way. I can remember another play where Booker just lost the ball going up and the refs called a foul on Chicago. Overall, I thought the calls favored the Bulls, but it was bad officiating all around.

I would rather play them both. After we sweep the Spurs, they should let us sweep the Thunder too.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've still got to sweep Chicago, Indy, and Miami first.

Yep. Some people like you:

There is no way this man is replaced if the team makes the playoffs.

Meh, I don't think his comments then are relevant. Back then, Randy had just taken over a 2-15 team and led them to an 18-31 finish (including winning their last 6 in a row and 8 of their last 10). For the first time in the post-Arenas era, the team actually looked competent, even good, at least when Nene was playing. With that kind of turnaround, it was pretty easy to stick with the coach and see what he could do with a full training camp under his belt.

As it turned out, he did okay in his first full season. The team was awful without Wall, but when Wall played, they were a .500 team. After that record, keeping him for one more season seemed reasonable.

Fast forward to this year, and we can see that the team is still just a .500 team despite being mostly healthy. I think now it's fair to argue that Randy has taken the team about as far as he is going to take them. If we're not going to add to the talent, we better at least shake things up with a new coach.

Of course, if we're going to hire a new coach, then it's an admission that the current plan the team is following isn't the right one. There is no reason to keep the architect of that plan either. Fire EG.

I wish this were the case, but we all know Grunfeld is getting extended. Ted is not going to make the move of keeping the GM and firing the coach...it would start too much drama in an organization trying to rid themselves of any turmoil in the locker room. There would be no justification to keep one and not the other...Ernie and Whitman are tied at the hip—they're a package deal.

I would love to see both replaced at years end, but they are going to accomplish the goal.

As my friend put in on text last night "I have already won as a Wizards fan...just seeing us be a legit NBA team is amazing." Echoing Consiglieri's post from a few pages back, I've been watching this team for 30 years, and it's hard to recall a better high than the last 2 games. Admittedly, the bar has been set very low, but still. There was that one fun Webber year, some moments in the MJ era, and of course the Gilbert led playoff series win, but this seems different. It's for real, and it's spectacular.

Take care of bidddneesss on Friday.

The Bulls got the better end of the deal by a far margin in the 1st, 2nd, and a good part of the 3rd. It was still poorly officiated in the 4th and OT, but the bad calls were even.

Awesome win! We need to get back home and hit the FT line hard though. Would have sucked to lose that (or any) game knowing we shot 50% from the line. Wont get away with that against better teams.

Yeah, that's the problem with bad officiating. It's just much better for the game to be called correctly and consistently all game long, rather than having stuff like that out there.

Play of the game :)

Not really. That possession led to Beal missing the potential game winner at the end of regulation. Ultimately, it was fairly meaningless. (Though I suppose if Chicago had one the tap, the might have scored on the ensuing possession. But since they had scored only 4 points in the previous 7 minutes of action, I don't think it was very likely.)

nate33 wrote:Wittman put Ariza on Augustin in the 4th quarter and that was the last we heard from Augustin.

We have beaten the Bulls based on superior talent and matchup advantages, and Wittman has just now stumbled upon a huge matchup advantage that should make the rest of the series go that much better. After seeing that, nearly all of my doubts have been erased. I just don't see how Chicago can beat us. At best, they'll manage to scrap and claw their way to victory in their first elimination game, but they can't beat us 4 times.

Ariza has to guard either Dunleavy or Augustin. If both are on the floor then we've won because their defense becomes atrocious.

Seriously, how can the refs possibly miss this? That almost makes up for all the awful calls we got all game.
