And Melo's idea of taking a paycut better not be "Fine I'll take $24M instead og $25M" either.

I'm glad somebody said this because that was my whole thing with the MDA saga and I got roasted for it. As a front office, you never like to see a coach ousted because the players give up. Knicks actually did this year (with Woody) what I thought they should have done with D'Antoni. Publicly back him, let him finish out the year and fire him on YOUR terms. Not the players'.

When I saw the team suddenly flip a switch and try for Woody you knew it was coming that they would someday turn on him too. Why not? When the blame will never come down on them.

The Knicks didn't back the players though. Pringles resigned. So they were always doing what you thought they should have.

Idk about that. Linsanity saved Pringles but after that month his job status was in limbo. Dolan talked to the team after their terrible start and told them Woody was here to stay, that they'd have to shape up. With Pringles it was a matter of when, even though he resigned I doubt he would've been coach past that day.

KnicksGod wrote:People who are worried about losing Melo need to just let go and let Phil. Melo can't win a title in NY as a big Max player, and probably that's true anywhere. If we drop Melo, Phil will build a team all his own. I'm fine with that.

The goal is not to retain Melo. It's to win a title. And retaining Melo at all costs kills that chance.

I totally a agree. I think Phil wants Melo back, but he's not married to anything. He even bashed Kobe publicly a few times and still won championships with him.

Phil is running this his way. Very careful with his words to communicate that his way will win.

There was official word at/before the ASB that the Knicks planned on retaining Woody for the rest of the season and would go from there. D'Antoni never got even that much support. He "resigned" like Lenny "resigned."

Thank God the Knicks didn't promise D'antoni the rest of the season...they'd have missed the playoffs.

No coach should be let off the hook. Part of the job description is to motivate. I'd argue that promising Woody the rest of this season was a mistake and NOT promising D'antoni more time than he deserved was the RIGHT move. In either case, the Knicks didn't fire D'antoni and he resigned; so I think it's unfair to say they treated the situation wrong.

I'm with you on this. I've had a feeling about that since Phil signed. It could happen.

What kind of mental midget admits that? How do you bring back a player that admits they quit on a season for crying out loud.
