Carmelo is going to be forced to choose between his agency and the Knicks. His agency ain't letting him take less, long term, because we might do something next year. That's just awful advice. Plus carmelo himself said he don't want to wait.

Carmelo is opting out to leave. He might not even know it yet. It makes no sense. Its bad financial advice. Bad career advice. Caa would be fast to tell him this is a bad move. So it must be their idea. They are using him because they are mad they are not running the Knicks anymore.

One might even say that Phil has cleared the path for Melo to walk now if he chose so, and Melo would look like the bad guy. If Melo stays, he's true to his word, is more concerned with winning, or he's loyal to the team. If he leaves, he's money hungry, not loyal and a liar. OUCH

Absolutely. And he has the history and credibility, and title goals, to not fall for the panic of keeping Melo at all costs.

To be honest, I don't know if Dolan anticipated that when he hired Phil -- I do think he wants to keep Melo no matter what -- but it's perhaps an unintended benefit for the organization and we fans.

You have to start demanding more and applying litmus tests, and challenge your best players to sacrifice. So here we go.

Taking less money to play on Houston would be a better option. Playing with a young star SG will add years to Carmelo career. That is fact. Don't forget Carmelo Anthony played with Iverson. I'm pretty sure he can deal with Harden who was a better facilitator than Westbrook in OKC.

Playing chicken with Carmelo through the media is not a good look for Phil.

Phil probably has a much better handle on what he's doing than you do.

The marker's been laid down. Phil's not giving Melo a Kobe Max - to the contrary, he wants Melo to take less to be part of the team's future.

If Melo doesn't got for it, that's his decision. But I also believe that Phil's got a much better handle on how to turn this franchise around than Melo does. And I'm a Melo supporter - but the line's been drawn. Melo's either with Phil's plan or he's not. The plan will be put into motion either way, and I'm pretty good with that.

You for the most part are spot on, but the Melo is human and all it takes is one injury in his opt in year to prevent Melo from getting big money.

They're agenda is always to go against the status quo. And make the situation worse than it is. Phil says Dolan has been true to his word yet this radio station is questioning that. However they have no problem believing everything their media buddy Frank Isola has to say.

SAS is probably not happy Woody was sent packing rather unceremoniously. He's probably also not thrilled with Phil drawing such a hard line with Melo. And CAA, isn't he repped by them?

SAS is still upset Isiah is gone. That he dislikes Phil tells me that Phil is the right guy

Phil Jackson strikes back!!

Once again, Phil is coming to the ruthless NY media, and he's saying all of the right things.

He's putting the team first!! I love it! If Melo doesn't want to take a paycut, we'll see you later. I'm sure if Melo leaves, then Phil will proceed to cleaning house.

It's going to be an interesting few months, to see how contract negotiations go, and to see who gets traded where and for what.

Also very interesting to see who Phil will hire!!

I don't believe anything Isola says. Phil is 100% in control. It's obvious.

Why would Melo leaving mean he is money hungry when other teams would be paying him less? Melo leaving would mean he is true to his words when he said he is willing to take less and wants to win now. Melo opting in would make him a liar.

Melo opting out and staying with the Knicks means he believes in Phil's plan sooner rather than later.
Melo opting out and signing with another team for less than the Knicks means he believes those teams are in better position to win now.

Either way Melo hasn't lied. He said he was opting out. He will do that. Melo said he will take less. All signs are pointing to him doing that. One thing Melo hasn't done is lied.

As long as Phil can

1. Trade Tyson Chandler for cap relief + draft picks
2. Trade Amare for a budding star and/or let him expire
3. Trade Felton for a competent point guard
4. Trade Bargnani for a washing machine
5. Re-sign Melo for much lower than the super max OR sign & trade him for draft picks

He has my full support. I fully expect atleast 3 of these things to happen.

And also, I really, really hope that Shumpert, Prigioni, Tim Hardaway Jr, Aldrich, Murry, & Jeremy Tyler are all in a Knicks uniform next season. I think all of these guys deserve to be here.

When Stephen A gets called out or made look stupid he gets defensive and doesn't have a good comeback.

That Phil can call a press conference, call out all the players for giving up on the coach, put the onus on Melo to take less and basically say whatever he wants pretty much speaks for itself on the power and control he has.

If Dolan still wanted a puppet, he wouldn’t have hired Phil. The true media trolls are showing themselves right now. These are the same clowns that said Phil was using the Knicks for leverage to get a job with the Lakers.

Melo really need to take 16 mill and call it a day. The amount of new money he will make in endorsements when the has another star with him and the team is winning would be staggering.

I'm not mad at him opting out either. Anything can happen to him next season. It's not worth the risk. Taking 23 mil over a guaranteed 80-100 mill is senseless.

How do you trade an expiring for cap relief?
