Coach Bud can kiss it

Post#1 » by ATLHawksfan21 » Wed Apr 23, 2014 1:38 am

Coach Bud just cost us this game and possibly the series. Why in the hell is he resting Teague and Milsap in a game that is this important? Teague and Milsap each played 25 minutes through 3 quarter while George played 32. We were down by 3 when he took Teague out and he doesn;t put him back in until we are down by 20. Our offense took a nosedive as soon as he took Teague out and he didn't even flinch. Even if we weren't going to win you have to get the guys back in and stop the bleeding and make the rest of the game a hard fought contest. Now, the Pacers are soaring with complete confidence and this series is in serious jeopardy.

I had complete faith in Bud before this but now I am left wondering.

I welcome Jamaal and whoever else to come in and give me hell as I talked a lot after game 1.

Don't over react. Teague was gassed and we got destroyed in that third quarter. Game was over with 6 min left in 3rd

Its a long series we need teague crazy for game 3 and 4.

Pacers were just better.... Which is obvious.

FYI this series has always been in jeopardy. Pacers are vastly superior.

We stole a game which is good. Now we have to protect home court

I'm sorry, but at 3'34 left in the 3rd, the score was 65-68, far away from a game over.

Meanwhile, I think it's possible that seeing IND starting to take advantage, he decided to tried something, but wait a bit too much before getting Teague in the game.

I think I saw the bench guys playing good in the first half, and thought they would be able to keep the game, then he would have bring Teague back in the 4th quarter.
It didn't work like that, maybe he shouldn't have tried this since it was risk but I can understand.

The bench play has been concerning in both games. Last game when the bench was in they gave up the lead until we put the starters in. It seems we lack offensive punch without Teague in, and our defense is meh but gives up too much dribble penetration.

Agree that we need to ride Teague more if we want to win. It's okay to stall with the bench (I mean... that's the whole point of the bench), but eventually you need to put your best product on the floor.

6/30 in the second half. WE SCORED 13 points in the 3rd quarter. WE COULDNT SCORE. The game was over in the third, maybe i forget the time, but it was done when Teague and Scott bricked (I MEAN STRAIGHT UP MASONRY) back to back 3s.

Lets not start blaming Bud for costing us this series when we are at 1-1

We were getting good looks, we just couldnt convert. Our offense took a nosedive because , we lack talent. Not because Teague wasnt in the game

Part of this is true but I also disagree with it. We are certainly at a disadvantage when it comes to talent. That is not the only reason why we took a nosedive though. Teague went out with 3:30 left in the 3rd and we had 13 points in that quarter at that point. It's not spectacular but its not abysmal either. We didn't score a single point for the rest of the 3rd or the beginning of the 4th until Teague came back in to the game.

Being at a talent disadvantage means we need to play our talented guys even more. Teague is the only guard on our team that can break down a defense so we have to lean on him. We don't really have any other choice. I was completely fine with him sitting once the game was out of hand but I just thought that Bud could have given one final effort before it got out of hand.

This thread seems a bit of an overreaction. Coach Bud is the same guy he was 3 days ago when ATL took Game 1 in Indy. He's the same guy whose team led the Conference in APG. He's the same guy oversaw one of the longest losing streaks in franchise history.

And he's still a rookie Head Coach who's not only learning how to coach in big playoff moments, but is learning how his team plays in big playoff moments.

He took a risk, it backfired. He'll adjust and move on. That's what the playoffs are about.

ATLHawksfan21 wrote:Teague sitting out 4 minutes per quarter through the first 3 quarters makes zero sense. This team goes as Teague goes and we are not good when he is on the bench. He is young and we aren't playing back to backs.

Unless Bud saw something that we didn't. Fatigue, injury, struggling against a bigger defender, being TOO aggressive.

It all started and ended with George.

Teague had a quick seven points, five rebounds and three assists in the first quarter. He let George know about it, too, by talking trash.

That got George going, which in turn got the rest of the Pacers going.
...Teague after his quick start?

George's length and quickness limited Teague to 3-of-8 shooting, no rebounds, one assist, three turnovers and just seven more points in the final three quarters.

Bud makes the same mistakes time and time again and never gets called on it. Typical sad American thought process always trust and blow the leadership qualities of authority figures out of proportion.

Superiorblogman, I consider myself a skeptic as much as the next guy. Even been called cynical a time or two. A title I wear with honor.

But you have to be the single most negative poster I've ever seen on these boards. Consistently. Incessantly.

Is there ANYTHING you like about the franchise?

GM? Coach? Players? Arena? Fans? City? Choice of Hot Dog vendors? Announcers?

Seriously...are you even an ATL fan?

Seems to me after Teague started trash talking, his game took a hit, and PG went bananas. The Pacers didnt look that great, we just shot terribly.

Regroup, on to game 3

This thread was definitely an overreaction. I had a few drinks last night and had put some money on the Hawks to score at least 90 and Teague to score at least 18 which both looked good until Teague went to the bench. I will admit that those two factors played a role in the creation of this thread but I was also genuinely bewildered by the move. Playoff games are just too important to give up on one when you are only down by a handful in my opinion.

Either way, I'm ready for game 3 and I hope we come out strong. Hopefully they struggle to shoot the ball like they usually do on the road and I hope these headlines about Lance fighting and Hibbert calling him selfish cause a distraction for them.

I hope Jeff doesn't get too full of himself, you want some dog in him but not get too carried away.

Win game 3 and all of this goes away. The Pacers are still awful in Atlanta, we have a legitimate chance of upsetting the 1 seed if we can win our home games. Teague was doing really well against PG in the first half, just gotta keep that up without getting too overaggressive, and we HAVE GOT to run some plays for Korver: him not shooting a shot in the first half is unacceptable.

Thanks man. I just feel bad for my roommate tonight. I tend to let my excitement get the best of me when it comes to the Hawks and I think we will have plenty of reason to be excited tonight.

LOL, Please do! I wish I could make it to tonight's game but my week was already booked before the schedule came out. I will certainly be at game 6 if the series is still going then. Would love to see us knock out the Pacers on our home floor.
