Hell yes. The fact is Mike D''antoni will not be a coach major free agents want to play for and he does not coach defense. Those two things are a bad combination for team trying to get back to championship level in the extremely tough Western Conference. I seriously would love to see the front office fire him and go after Byron Scott.

That's my thinking as well...but if we do fire MDA and we are somewhat competitive, look at a team like the Suns. They didn't make the playoffs, but were markedly better than people assumed they would be, enough for Hornacek to finish 2nd in coach of the year...I'm sure they didn't hurt their recruiting abilities for FAs (and Bledsoe).

Regardless, it's a tough call, but with us having our worst season ever, I wouldn't be surprised if we are easily better if we have a coaching change/much fewer injuries.

It's not a tough call and you can't compare the team to the suns. They had young good talent and not minimum level guys either in Bledsoe and Dragic. You're not going to get that out of this lakers team. They still owe nearly 10 million to a cripple Nash, 23.5million to a 36 year old Kobe coming off two major surgeries. The fact is there's absolutely nothing and I mean absolutely nothing the organization can do to be competitive next year. The organization is just about to lose the best player they had on their roster this year and that still led them to the second to last worst record in the west. Yeah you can hope Kobe is healthy next year but at his age and dreaming he is the kobe of old or at least the kobe of old you'd expect at 36, it's nowhere near enough to make a team competitive in a conference where most of the top end talent in the league is stored. Next year is going to suck and probably even more so than this year because we won't get an actual first round pick out of it.

and honestly guys, is kobe coming off an injury even a top 10 player anymore? dragic certainly was. i love kobe and everything but coming off an injury he will probably play even less defense than he already does, which seems hard to do. offensively he might still be borderline top 10, but overall hes just too old at this point. i imagine next season will be real hard to watch for any fans of kobe.

theres no way we could replicate what the suns did, we just arent that good.

My point about the Suns was that simply they exceeded expectations and didn't hurt their standing with future free agents.

LakersNation reporting that Mike D'Antoni will be brought back for his third season as head coach. Not sure how credible they are, but I'm inclined to believe it or else D'Antoni would have been fired soon after the season ended.

just a question, which is probably a really stupid one but I've never been familiar with the policy with regards to the hiring and firing of coaches...

If MDA is fired, he still gets paid right? Since Potatohead was fired that means we'd be paying three coaches no? Or do they all just get paid out?

Sorry guys I sound like such a n00b lol
