finally got the time to watch the Bad Boys documentary. great doc, it did them justice. a few random thoughts though:

I guess it ultimately doesn't matter but why didn't the Pistons protect Rick Mahorn and leave James Edwards available for the expansion draft in '89? there's a small chance nobody picks the veteran up and even if they do, I'd rather go with the young guy whose style of play is what the team is about. I know that Edwards still put in a few good years but it seems a bit of risky move that could have messed with the team's chemistry.

Damn, Adrian Dantley was as enigmatic and prideful as he's always been. You could see that the trade still bothers him a lot. You could feel his animosity for Isiah with the way he was certain that Isiah was the one to pull the strings. Those were the juiciest quotes of all the film, props to the film-makers for getting that stuff. Aguirre's comment that he was a better player than Dantley, period, was the icing on the cake.

I will look into this a bit better but it's funny how even in the doc they touch upon the '88 ECF when the Bad Boys finally beat the Celtics and a few Boston players left their bench before the final buzzer of the last game. Nobody had a trouble with that but the 91 Pistons walk-off was widely considered as such an unclassy move.

Lol. I wondered that as well. As far as a few Celtic players walking off I think it was a bigger deal for Detroit because Isiah was trying (maybe not, I dont know) to hide his face like he was ashamed, and he was the one behind it. Either way its pathetic on the Pistons part to walk off like that. The look on Jordans face was priceless. He was literally like "what in the frig"?

oh and another thing I loved - James Worthy telling us how Rodman constantly grabbed his ass to irritate him in the '89 Finals Game 3, then a cut to Rodman simply saying "uhh.. I think Mahorn taught me that."

just the thought that Laimbeer and Mahorn would have such ridiculous tricks that they could advise younger players to use.. haha, it's just amazing.

Follow-up on the documentary - Dantley went on a Detroit radio show and criticized Isiah:

Called Zeke a con man;

Said he didn't watch the documentary, "you think I’m gonna listen to Isiah talk?";

Admitted that he's still angry about the trade acknowledging that 25 years have gone by since then;

Claimed that everybody loved him on the team besides Isiah (my own side-note - he certainly was a veteran figure on the team and had the nickname - "The Teacher". I remember reading that a torn up Salley even cried after the trade);

and most ridiculously claimed that if they had won the 88 Finals, he wouldn't have won the MVP simply because Isiah wouldn't have let him. dude... we're talking about the series where Isiah put up perhaps the greatest finals performance ever, scoring 25 points in a quarter on one foot and refusing to live with the fact that his team could lose. not to mention the obvious facts, that he was the team's leader and Dantley's didn't have a case for the MVP stats-wise.

Dantley did average 21 and 5 on 57% shooting. He scored 11 more points over the series than Isiah despite taking 33 less shots and playing less minutes. He got to the free throw line and hit at 86%. Isiah put up big numbers and had that one huge game but he also jacked up a lot of shots and hit less than 30% from 3 for the series. If the two had gotten along better maybe they could have won the series.

I don't think that them having their differences had any affect on the outcome of this series.

It is hard to tell but don't you think there were times when say Danltey and someone else were options and Isiah went to the other person despite the best scorer being Dantley. I just think subconsciously or maybe even on purpose there were times he would have snubbed Dantley.

i dont doubt that isiah is a con-man. i mean, if i was an owner, i could see him calling me up asking for an interview to be GM. he talks me into it and i agree, just to get him off the phone. but im my head i am laughing, thinking there is no **** way i would hire this guy after what he did to the knicks and the CBA and every other thing he has ruined. then isiah comes in for the interview and by the end i am eating out of the palm of his hands, giving him a contract, more money than he asked for, giving him total control of the team, the coach, letting him date my daughter, giving him my house... 5 mins after he leaves, i think, what the hell just happened. i freak out and try to cancel, but its too late, contract has been signed.

that dude is one smooth talker.
