Shelly Sterling claims in her lawsuit Stiviano embezzled $1.8 million by scheming to get as much as she could from an old man -- Donald Sterling. Stiviano claims everything she got was a gift. Nehoray says her refusal to talk to the Commish has nothing to do with the audio tape ... he believes talking to Silver would get in the way of her defense in the lawsuit.

We're told Silver will have to agree to some major limitations in questioning ... before his client would talk. But we're told that won't happen anytime soon.

"Had the case gone to trial, an expert would have testified that an analysis of the Sterlings' rental practices in Koreatown revealed that they rented to far fewer African Americans and Hispanics than would be expected, based on demographics."

In his deposition, Baylor spoke about what he called Sterling's 'plantation mentality,' alleging the owner in the late 1990s rejected a coaching candidate, Jim Brewer, because of race. Baylor quoted Sterling as saying: 'Personally, I would like to have a white Southern coach coaching poor black players.'

When Manning’s agent told Sterling that the offer was unacceptable, Sterling responded by saying it was a lot of money. Said Baylor, in the deposition: “Donald T. said, ‘Well that’s a lot of money for a poor black ... ' -- I think he said kid. For a poor black kid I think. For a poor black something, kid or boy or something. Poor black. Poor black. Danny was upset. So Danny just stormed out. He just stormed out of the place. Where he went, I don’t know. He never came back to the house.”

This is the thing that makes this so surreal.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/2 ... 22268.html

he NAACP's Los Angeles chapter has apparently reconsidered plans to give Don Sterling an award in the wake of the Clippers owner's racist rant.

"He is not receiving a lifetime achievement award from the NAACP," Lorraine Miller, NAACP interim vice president, said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Miller's comment came after host David Gregory had pressed Miller on the award. She first condemned Sterling's remarks, saying, "If you're silent about this, then you're accepting this, and people have got to say that this is not good and do something about it."

As of Sunday morning, the Los Angeles NAACP's website still says Sterling will receive a "lifetime achievement award" at a May event commemorating the organization's 100th anniversary. Awkward!

Its still on the website.

racism talks almost always turn to the oppression olympics where everybody decides to broadcast their misfortunes as to convey who has had a tougher life because of their cultural backround or how their perceptions of a singular event exemplifies racism as an epidemic. everybody on this planet has problems and compared to the rest of the globe, north america has the fewest and the silliest combination of them. history is important, but constantly dwelling on it is poisonous for progress.

this old fart isn't going to change his mind. firing him, banning him from games, whatever the punishment is - it won't solve racism, it won't even be a victory, it'll just internalize the problem further and create more tension. i'm on the morgan freeman bandwagon, if you want to stop racism, stop talking about it.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Read some more about the discrimination lawsuit that was filed against him for racist rental practices. He paid a huge settlement to avoid having it go to court.

If Donald Sterling was just some old crank sitting around waiting to die, then sure.

But he's not.

He's a man with a net worth of $1.9 BILLION. He is the owner of thousands of apartment buildings in LA. He is an owner in a league that makes most of its money off the exploits of black men.

His racist attitudes matter. They affect people in very real ways.

When someone like Morgan Freeman says that we should stop talking about racism, he's not saying we should ignore racists and just let them off the hook. He's saying we shouldn't be looking to make it an issue all the time. He's saying black people shouldn't look at racism as an excuse.

And besides...what do you suggest? Should we just all look the other way and pretend nothing happened? What does history tell us about how that kind of attitude tends to work out?

You missed his point when he said it. Freeman said we need to stop calling each other white men and black men. And if we stop identifying each other by color, then we can stop racism. It was said in the context of Freeman believing that there is no need for Black History Month.

WALLACE: How are we going to get rid of racism until ...?

FREEMAN: Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man. And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You're not going to say, "I know this white guy named Mike Wallace." Hear what I'm saying?

He didn't say stop talking about racism, when someone like Sterling makes a racist statement and goes out of his way to identify blacks as different and as people he doesn't want to associate with.

Sadly his views are his opinion and ive come across racism once in my life and the individual directed his comments towards me "I hate your kind and if were to me I would kill you right now and all your ppl". I can never forget those words as ive never experienced something so extreme. I come from Toronto which is quite multicultural (This happened outside Toronto in a small town called Georgetown) I thought about it clearly and now I understand no mattet what the one biggest weakness to humans is pride and the belief of an individual is better than another through materialistic means as I believe nothing but materialism causes rifts between ppl its sad but I find it true through my experience and this goes for everybody even simple means such as money but yet sometimes we forget that we came into this world the same way and we will leave this world the same way. I forgive sterling as I have no space in my heart to be judgemental. Best weapon for discrimination and pride is to kill em with kindness. I use to believe being good and kind to others is weakness but ive truly learned (the hard way) that being kind and having patience is how we maintain happiness and peace in our lives. A man once told me How can you not forgive and be patient with others when we disobey god daily yet he is still forgiving and shows patience with us (im not all that religious but that has stuck with me for sometime and has allowed me to have different view on life). To truly move on from this we must not show aggression or hate towards sterling as it will breed more angst in this world between People

The NAACP deserves to get a ton of bad press over this. They should be ashamed of themselves.

The NAACP conveniently looked the other way and ignored Sterling's past because he provided them with tickets to Clippers game and gave the NAACP's leadership access to high profile Clippers players and the Staples Center.

Sterling has already received a lifetime achievement award from the LA NAACP. He got it right in the middle of his Baylor/housing rights cases.

For more than two years, Sterling has been staring down federal civil rights charges related to his real estate holdings and rental practices. According to the Justice Department, Sterling, his wife and three of his companies have engaged in discrimination, principally by refusing to rent to African-Americans. In February, Elgin Baylor, the Clippers GM from 1986 to 2008, filed an age and racial discrimination suit against his old boss alleging, among other things, that Sterling repeatedly expressed a desire to field a team of "poor black boys from the South ... playing for a white coach." Sterling's attorneys have denied the accusations. And even as these controversies swirl around him, Sterling is here tonight to receive a lifetime achievement award from the local chapter of the NAACP.

"Donald Sterling is a prince among men," says Leon Isaac Kennedy, who starred in the Penitentiary series of movies in the '70s and '80s. "I've been his friend for 25 years." At dinner, the emcee updates the crowd on the Lakers, who are losing to Houston in a crucial playoff game. With Sterling in attendance, guests aren't sure whether to boo or cheer. But when the Clippers owner rises to speak, he is gracious. "I really have a special feeling for this organization," he says. He's a major donor, contributing $10,000 to $15,000 this year alone, according to chapter president Leon Jenkins.

This is a massive piece from 2009. He got his start as a personal injury/divorce attorney. Figures!

i suggest not to create a big deal out of a dying old fart, in some instances a seemingly senile man and create another discourse as if it's a surprise to find the older generation harboring such blatant racist views. it perpetuates the talks of something that's universally accepted of being a frowned upon (in north america at least), dwells on the past, and hinders future perceptions of children mainly.

i don't know if people sometimes forget how our talks affect this community and the subsequent surroundings of the members more than they ever will to this billionaire. in this instance, by not reacting and staying silent, i think it would send a stronger message that as a society we're above the nonsense - obviously we're not ready for that. to react through social media so callously plays right into the narcissistic types of rich people like him.

it's been fun chatting! if i continue i'll be breaking my own rules  i'll let you have the last word.

You are wrong Novak made a statement since he is the players representative in this mornings papers.

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/04/ ... ntroversy/

On what the league-wide reaction should be: “I think it’s personal to each and every guy. It affects each guy differently. More than anything, I don’t think the league can sit back and say it didn’t happen if it did. There’s no way it should be tolerated. I don’t think there’s any workplace in the world you can speak that way about somebody, and I think in our league especially.”

Dont know if the extended clip was posted but for those who missed it this is the extended part from yesterdays clip:
http://deadspin.com/exclusive-the-extended-donald-sterling-tape-1568291249?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

DS: It's the world! You go to Israel, the blacks are just treated like dogs.

V: So do you have to treat them like that too?

DS: The white Jews, there's white Jews and black Jews, do you understand?

V: And are the black Jews less than the white Jews?

DS: A hundred percent, fifty, a hundred percent.

V: And is that right?

DS: It isn't a question—we don't evaluate what's right and wrong, we live in a society. We live in a culture. We have to live within that culture.

V: But shouldn't we take a stand for what's wrong? And be the change and the difference?

DS: I don't want to change the culture, because I can't. It's too big and too [unknown].

V: But you can change yourself.

DS: I don't want to change. If my girl can't do what I want, I don't want the girl. I'll find a girl that will do what I want! Believe me. I thought you were that girl—because I tried to do what you want. But you're not that girl.

Damn, the first tape made it seem like a jealousy thing with her giving too much attention to black people (I assumed guys when he said the "sex with them" statement). This tape though is so much worse. He really lays it all out there and seems to think that racism only starts with direct attacks of violence on people, with anything short of it being people expressing their free will. He's pretty extreme with his racism it's clear.

It's also weird that a guy who's as rich as him still has insecurities with how others see him (racists in particular). If I was a billionaire I wouldn't give a **** about what anyone thought of me and would just live it up. He just sucks as a person.
