I'm almost tempted to start a "Hornets Need Wings" thread, and list a poll of options for us to vote on and explain through post

Charlotte has 99 problems, and getting rid of Gerald and getting a Shooting Guard will solve about 75 of them

Hendo has taken on the role of a diop or tyrus Thomas. Just an awful player wasting this teams money.

hendo is definitely getting beat up in this thread, and rightfully so based on his disappearance in the playoffs versus our expectations of him as our 3rd scorer. that isnt to say that overall he isnt a solid player. hendo, like any other non-3pt-shooting wing needs to be paired with someone who can shoot or at the very least get buckets galore. put hendo next to westbrook and durant and he would be fine as a starter. put hendo in between lillard and matthews or curry and thompson etc... and he would be fine.

hendo next to MKG and CDR and kemba is a recipe for awful spacing, clogged lanes and inefficient offense.

on the other hand, hendo is a team leader, a solid defender, an extremely smart player and part of a locker room with reportedly excellent chemistry. it is yet unclear if replacing him with a better fit on offense will translate to more wins. that is the great unknown, something that must be weighted carefully before trading him.

and realistically, would the return for henderson in a trade net anything of real value? it is doubtful we could clear his salary in a trade, so it wont help our cap space. in fact, we might have to take back more salary to get anything that would help us.

i have a feeling hendo will still be in this roster come november. in fact, i think we are more likely to see MKG or biyombo traded in the offseason - not that i would necessarily agree with that direction.

there is one asset that could be paired with hendo to net a true difference maker and that is the detroit pick, which i am sure we are reluctant to move. hendo + detroit pick, or hendo + neal/biz + detroit pick is the type of package that could really bring something of value in return from a team looking to tank, or as a trade chip in a sign in trade deal, such as hayward.

And another Summer of us being linked to Rudy Gay for the 132nd straight year is upon us.

*sigh*

Actually, **** it. Bring him on. It'll be worth it just to see Bonnell wince awkwardly after months and months of Gay chucking us out of games. That turd burglar loves to bring up that we passed on drafting Gay.

Rudy is a good player, 20-6-3 is really good he also shot on good percentages.....but its no coincidence that each team that has traded him has gotten better without him

The numbers make it seem like he is a fit with us but you are right about the teams records after they have traded him. Memphis and Toronto are both looking good right now. I'm guessing Sacramento cannot wait when he leaves.

the gay/cousins dynamic really isnt too different than a gay/jefferson dynamic (especially with thomas/kemba similarities). it wasnt a disaster in sacramento, but it surely didnt make them any better.

i still think that gay would be best used as a small ball power forward.

I'm still just worried because every team he's gone off of has taken huge strides in being a better team. I'm just not sure he's really what we need

If we get Rudy we'll be just like the Memphis team from a few years ago, trying our best to trade him because he is a bad fit

If Charlotte sign Rudy Gay, I'm going to be like...

I understand that it's not a popular belief that Gay could do anything but ruin the Hornets, but I have my own opinion that he'd help the team more than he'd hurt it paired with Kemba & Big Al

He is gonna want a max deal, why would he leave Sac where he makes 19mill to sign somewhere else for less especially when that team (us) aren't contenders

Where is the 3pt Line? - The Hendo Thread

Post#1259 » by Logander » Mon Apr 28, 2014 9:24 pm

and people were acting like I was stupid
for saying id give Greg Monroe 11 mil to play here when you guys want to give Gay a max contract? There goes all our cap space on a guy who would make us worse. :banghead:

Edit: isn't Gay just a slightly better Gerald Henderson? I mean Gay may not be as one dimensional as Hendo but I feel like they have very similar play styles. That's really the last thing the Hornets need

Rudy Gay will not command a max contract. Gay's market value will be between $8-10 million annually. I doubt that he opt out of his final year, but if he does it will only be because a team offered him a security blanket in a 4-5 year contract. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't be opposed to it for bias reasons
