Sterling banned for life from the NBA (P. 40)

This is the clip I listened to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhT6d5fMhzI I am not sure if there is more to hear. I think the girl is up to no good, she guided the conversation that she chose to record, and also created/caused the issue(s) that they were discussing. I am not trying to defend Sterling, I am just saying that the way the girlfriend went about recording the conversation and how she guided it back to the racism issue makes me believe that she had a hidden agenda to screw this guy over. With the way Magic Johnson came into the discussion only to subsequently end up in the premature talks of buying the team makes the conspiracy theorist in me say that Magic Johnsons group put this girl up to the task. It may be a reach but somethings not right here.

Most guys are the same way to their girlfriends or wives, making them completely cancel their social media accounts entirely, going through their phones to check their text messages. I thinks it's overblown, this guy just doesn't want her bragging about her exploits on social media such as instagram.

Everyone knew what Sterling was about, but the league did nothing until it turned into a PR nightmare for them. Even if they end up doing the right thing in this instance, I'm not holding out much hope that they'll take any steps to prevent someone like Sterling from holding a position of power in future.

Maybe that makes me a freak, but I don't go through my girlfriend's phone or email or social media or whatever. The idea of being constantly suspicious of someone like that sounds crippling. If I can't trust someone to not cheat on me every single time she gets a text message, I probably have no businesses getting involved in anything approximating a relationship.

Look the NBA is riddled with owners with dubious pasts and current endeavors.
DeVos family owns Amway a technically legal pyramid scheme and has been fined both in USA, Canada, India for illegal practices and had a campaign against P%G that they were associated with the devil. (Orlando)

Mikhail Prokhorov runs a opposition party against Putin in Russia but it is in reality a thinly veiled support to help keep Putin in power and keep the illusion that Russia is a democracy. Plus how he got his money? Nets

Those are just two quick and obvious examples of the ownership in the NBA one old and one new.

If you make your partner close their social media account and check their text messages, your a needy insecure bitch. If you don't trust them, why are you with them? Makes no sense

Well if sponsors pull out of the league and not just out of the Clippers because of this, could Silver not assume control of the team, because it threatens the entire league and not just Sterling? He could say he is devaluing the entire NBA not just the Clippers. Remember these are franchises and is there not a franchise agreement that they sign to get in the club? There must be something somewhere that contains some language about the league being able to step in and assume control.

Also if the league fails to act, could they face lawsuits from Clippers Employees about maintaining a hostile work environment?

Those are all valid points - I just want to clarify, I don't want to imply that I'm a legal expert - far from it. I do know that it's dangerous to fight billionaires in court. I know that secretly recording a conversation (unless you have a warrant etc), essentially means that it's not admissible in court. So I'm sure a legal battle with a billionaire is the last thing Silver wants. Most owners want to own teams for the prestige and bragging rights, both of which he'll lose with this. No doubt that this will cut into his profits (sponsors already), but I could see it affecting ticket sales and player acquisitions as well. What if Chris Paul and Blake Griffin demand out? Or threaten it?

Sterling could sell a team with this roster (with a coach that players love to play for) for a lot more than he could in 2 years after half the team forces their way out.

My case in point is the heat turning their shirts inside out in protest tonight.. the only thing they are turning it into is a sideshow. The clippers made a strong point on Saturday with their silent protest the heat have just watered it down

The Clips might as well have boycotted yesterday's game considering the way they played. Not saying they should have, but that would have blown up everything. And how about Mark Jackson calling for Clips fans to boycott the next game in LA? What is that? A bit of a conflict of interest? Shaddup and let the Clips handle it.

It sounds like he's pretty drugged up in that tape. She made a point of going out of the room to make him his Juice"....who knows what she put in it.

No matter how you slice it, this is going to get ugly. Sterling isn't going to slink away...he has a history of suing..and he'll be suing lots I would think. Claim he was drugged, coerced, blackmailed, etc. He'll have the best lawyers money can buy and this will take years to settle if Silver simply tries to oust him.

If he does not sell then Jordan, Griffin, CP3 will all demand trades and Doc is a goner. Dude just ruined his franchise. Just sell it (probably around 700 million the way teams are going these days) and move on.

First off Magic is my favourite player ever and I don't believe this to be true BUT..What if....and a BIG What if...Magic and this girl plotted for this to happen in an elaborate scheme to get ownership of the Clippers ? Knowing damn well he was a bigot and racist that they could trap him and set all of this into motion ? Would that be hard to believe ? There is no place in the NBA for Sterling, it just seems funny all of this played out the way it did. For years everyone in the NBA and people who have assiciated with him new what he was? Would be genius if Magic had any part of this at all to burn this ****, but maybe I am just a conspiracy theorist ?
