If I had money to bet on which team would win the next game, I would pass on making the bet.

I lost hope with the Nets... They couldn't close out games at home twice and now back to Toronto. This series is over.

We almost won a game in which our backcourt scored a total of 17 points. This series is far from over.

Meh, Indiana has a future. We don't. I'd rather be in their position, to be honest.

You dont know that. People forget that last year led by Brook Lopez with subpar jj and d will we won 49 games. Also when your owner is willing to spend almost 200 million dollars you can live without draft picks, just look at the Lakers.

Do they though? They have Paul George and little else.
-Lance Stephenson might not be brought back for many reasons.
-David West will be 34 by the start of next season.
-Gorge hill will be 28 in a few weeks. He's reached his ceiling and its that of a third guard off the bench who is someone overpaid 'til 2017.
-Roy Hibberts value is at its all time lowest and I wouldn't be surprised if they moved him this offseason. He's also reached his ceiling and might actually decline the next few years.
Sure they're in a better position than we are in terms of picks. But this team is maxed out salary wise with few ways to improve the roster just like we are. I wouldn't consider the Pacers to have one of the brightest futures out there.

D-Will wasn't subpar, he stepped up huge after the ASB last year, and that was when we really started winning games.
We don't have cap space, draft picks, or attractive trade assets. The Lakers always had one of those 3, and they were also able to do what they did under the old CBA, when they were able to S&T no matter what their salary was...we can't do that.

My opinion is that we wont reach championship contender or even a real playoff contender unless we sign a big FA like a KD, which i doubt. But i dont think we'll be the knicks of the last decade we have too much talent even if old but good enough to win over 40 games a year next few years

Well, you kind of answer your own question. Even if they decide to blow it up...it's easy for them to do so, because they have draft picks, and they have guys that are on reasonable deals and can get them more assets in return, like Hibbert, West, and Hill. Stephenson they could S&T. And if they wanted to part ways with George too, they could get quality picks in return for him too.
We literally can't rebuild. Nobody wants our players, because they're all overpaid (D-Will, Johnson, Lopez), and we don't have draft picks until 2019, except for our 2015 and 2017 picks, which are included in pick swaps, so even if they were good picks, we wouldn't keep them.
Can't have a future without tradable contracts and draft picks, in addition to being way over the luxury tax threshold.

Well lucky for us trading Gerald Wallace means we have one player under contract for 2015-2016. I know we're not used to it, the fans from NJ. But having almost almost all the cap space is very good in a big market

We have a future in free agency and with current tradable contracts.
The Pacers only have picks. They are nothing much else. In order to have a real future, you must have future picks, tradable contracts and cap space. So, I wouldn't say their problems are totally better than ours.

Truth is draft picks are overated, look at teams that have been in the loterry past few years Cleveland, kings, pistons, even look at pelicans. You gotta hit multiple times in the lottery in order to build through it the only examples i can think of is OKC and maybe the Wizards. The cavs have had 2 number one picks past 4 years and they still stink. When the Nets were bottom feeders for 5 years they didnt hit on a single pick, lucky we traded them all really, and we always have **** luck in the lottery.

why did you mention the pelicans? Lol they got the next Tim Duncan through the draft. Pelicans need to get a big time free agent and develop AD and they're in itzachari179 wrote:Truth is draft picks are overated, look at teams that have been in the loterry past few years Cleveland, kings, pistons, even look at pelicans. Yeah.. our prize for sucking could easily have been something like:
Lopez
Favors
MKG
Porter
Knight
Nothing to sniff at, maybe potential.. don't know how many games they win.. probably good enough for a low seed in the east with a healthy Lopez. You're still really looking at free agency for your superstar and starting to make decisions on whether to pay guys.

I'd trade this whole team for AD... and it still wouldn't be enough to get him.

Yeah but picks get you players in this league. Especially, when it comes to a big market team.
Our trade assets this summer will be
-Thornton's 8.6 million expiring
-Teague's 1.1 million rookie deal
-Blatche's 1.3 million player option
-KG's 12 million expiring
-Brook's 14 million/2 year deal
That's great for short term deals but you aren't going to long term better this team with these assets. We are basically banking on the 2015 free agent class or the 2016 free agent class if we don't get under the luxury tax and we don't have any picks this year. We lucked out on Plumlee who is a lotto pick in this draft in hindsight, we need more of that and will have to give up valuable pieces to get a decent 1st round pick for some youth and agnosticism....which we desperately need to fully utilize Kidd's spread system.
If that Wallace deal doesn't happen and King didn't make an irrational move, we could use that 6th pick to acquire Dwight Howard. If not, we could have had Harrison Barnes or Andre Drummond and then, flipped either one for James Harden.
So, picks can be overrated if you plan to bottom out and tank year after year but depending on your franchise situation, it's extremely valuable. We had a chance to build a long term championship contender like the Clippers or Rockets in a New York market and Billy King blew it. Now, we are basically trying to get better with short term deals that ultimately end up masking the root of the issue being the franchise player and the assets we gutted for him, to accommodate him.
