Those are just two quick and obvious examples of the ownership in the NBA one old and one new.

And yet these (American) leagues prefer kingpin billionaire owners to consortiums like MLSE or community ownership. For every Cuban or Robert Kraft there is a Malouf and a Sterling with their hookers. Russia is an Oligarchy in every sense. America is a Plutocracy. Both empires run on energy currency, financial services and a public sector military juggernaut that are deficit financed. Mikhail Prokhorov is likely no worse than Hank Greenberg or public friendly Mayor Bloomberg. Cross these guys and they'll hire special agencies to ruin you.

Magic is one of the 1st to condemn & quickly announce his ownership group is interested in buying the Clippers

Sterling is a piece of sheet, & has always been known for it

The question is

What does Bimbet have to gain
Pics of Magic with Bimbet, {posted on Instagram} is the source of the problem
Magic now wants to buy the Clippers

Conclusions

I love Magic {always have}
Bimbet loves money {always has & still does}
Magic loves NBA / Basketball / women / Clippers {always has, always will}

He wants his girlfriend to be a posh white girl and not be posting photos on instagram of a hip hop lifestyle. I dont think thats actually racist. Sterling has a track record of being racist, if another owner said this it wouldnt be nearly as bad

Wanting his half latina/half black girlfriend to be a posh "white" girl and not have a "hip hop" lifestyle sounds pretty damn racist to me

This line of thinking would equate to 99% of the population being biggots or racist on some level. There are a lot of ethnicities here in the GTA that don't want their family members to date people from a different cultural or religious backgrounds.

Yup. I posted something along these lines in another thread.

Sterling might be forced to sell simply because of an advertiser/fan boycott. If a Clipper boycott doesn't work, then some major national sponsors could bail on the NBA completely. Once the stench of Sterling starts to hurt the bottom lines of 29 other franchises, you can bet the owners will aggressively move to get Sterling out of the league.

Where does freedom even enter this discussion?

He's free to say whatever he wants. And, sponsors, customers, fans, players, etc... are free to voice their displeasure with what he says, and choose to not spend money on a team he owns or work for him.

Too many things wrong with Les' idea

-would break binding contracts
=would favour teams that happen to have cap space (like us, but it's not fair)
-would disadvantage Clippers players from a financial perspective - would overwhelm available cap space
-would disadvantage other free agents (like Lowry)
-players who didn't leave because they couldn't get comparable elsewhere would be stigmatized

Of course, if Blake Griffin wants to come here, I'm all for the idea.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that the big winner would be the Lakers.

As you can see in many pictures and videos he still looks happy having conversations with black players, it's just deep inside him he doesn't feel comfortable chilling with black people.

There is more to our legal system than legal/illegal. There is equity, there is also public policy. He's not an owner of some private business that the NBA is being pushed to take away. The NBA is being pushed to take a NBA franchise out of his hands.

Your argument may make sense if he was an owner in a different sense, like if he started his own business and turned out to have racist conversations in private... the government nor anybody else can take away his business for this reason. Franchise owners are a different story and are not afforded the same "freedoms". At the same time you seem to be concentrating on this tape only but are ignoring his history. He has acted on his racism, they are not just private thoughts.

Nobody is trying to change his thinking. The NBA will try (is being pushed to try) and distance itself from associating and working with someone who has a history of racism and discrimination.
Yes you're right this is being blown pretty big but some of that is because people are not only reacting to what just happened with this tape, but the reactions are taking into account this guy's history. Unfortunately in the past the issues weren't dealt with adequately in relation to the NBA so it's all pent up and coming to the surface now.

Sorry, he's done as an NBA owner and his name is ruined. He will have an extra billion dollars, but he won't get to ogle 'beautiful black bodies' anymore.

He pays his players with the money the players generate by entertaining us. He is a middle man providing little to no value (and in Sterling's case, destroying value) who gets to skim off the top and and sit court side, hoping some of Chris Paul's shine will rub off on him. He is a **** parasite that you have chosen to white knight for inexplicable reasons.

I asked a sports lawyer on Twitter whether league-wide financial implications would give the league more legal leverage - i.e. a better defence if Sterling launches an anti-trust suit to keep his asset. The answer is yes. The owners may not have the right to kick Sterling out just for his comments, but have a right to protect their own interests if they are being damaged by Sterling.
