Much respect to the Heat players.
Strong statement.

I'm a Clippers fan here waiting to see what comes from all of this... how much of Donald Sterling's non-sense is going to affect the Clippers, the Players, the fans, the city.

But the Heat's statement of solidarity hit it home, that this really is a league "issue".
It's about the Players coming together standing against the Owners and League and making sure they do what's right. No slap on the wrist is going to make this go away.

One Owner = All Owners.
Clippers = Heat (which = all the players/teams)

If Silver really wanted to punish Sterling he would force Joel Anthiny on his team till he sells it! That way no one would sit court side to due to the likely hood of a missed layup attemp coming at them.

The fact remains that you still have a great team. Maybe we'll see each other in the Finals, who knows.

Our Championship this year would be to get rid of Donald T. Sterling.
At this point, I almost wouldn't even care if the Clips lose out to the Warriors in the 1st Round, if it meant getting rid of this fcuken scumbag once and for all.

Sterling = Owners
Clippers = Players

Why make a standing against all owners and the league when pretty much everybody has gone against Sterling?

The Owners, I suspect, will look to protect "their own"... they'll say all the right things and condemn Sterling, but in the end they'll slap him on the wrist and try to bury this thing.

The Players Association have asked to be part of the decision making process, through Kevin Johnson, and as he said, this is an "opportunity" and that it's a historic moment (for the players to show strength/unity).

Essentially, the Owners have defended this dude for years, one way or another. They've ignoring things in the past, they've looked the other way... it's too big to ignore now and it's beyond repair.

If the Owners won't do what's right on their own, the PLAYERS should/will do what they can to put pressure on the league COLLECTIVELY.

It's just weird to see (supposedly) educated, financially strong and influential men still clinging to racism in 2014. And the thing is, Sterling isn't in minority. I'm not even sure how I feel about this. I don't think I'm sad or angry. I'm just dissapointed. I hope the league sends a strong message.

The issue with this is Im in the line of thinking of Mark Cuban. Its despicable, ignorant, hateful and has no place in modern society, but you cant simply kick the guy out. Within his ignorance, the fact remains he still has rights in this country which shouldn't be violated.

Its tricky, fine him, suspend him, limit his involvement with the team, but I dont think hes going anywhere. Unfortunately I think the players have to sacrifice in order to force his hand; sit out the games.

Man, I miss Joel Anthony. He sucked offensively, but his pick and roll coverage was awesome. Our defense is still solid without him, but it's not as stifling as once was when he was playing at a high level (2010~2012?) and everyone was in tune defensively.

He is 81 years old. He got his education when schools still had segregated drinking fountains. Doesn't excuse the comment, but it's not nearly as shocking as people in the NBA inner circles have acted about it. Plenty of old people who hang on to the past, some of it very backwards. Sterling was known to be such a person for quite some time.

As far as getting rid of him, I don't think the owners will allow Silver to just remove him or take the team away. However, if the situation keeps building and fans/players don't let the issue fade away it will start damaging the NBA brand. That is something owners won't stand for. My guess they may make some kind of option of owners voting him out, that way they still feel they have ultimate control. But they will, if they do at all, remove him from the NBA for financial reasons not because he is a racist.

All that said, I feel bad for the Clippers (fans/players/organization). Just a crappy situation that draws attention away from a great team during the playoffs. Hopefully it will get it sorted out somehow.

After hearing Commissioner Silver at the Press Conference it feels like it's game 7 of the Finals.

Now it's up to the Owners to actually vote the guy out. The ban and the fines mean virtually nothing, if the Owners don't vote him out.

Promising day, all things considered.

I'm glad for clippers' fans, I know they've been displeased with sterling for a while now.

the one phrase I keep hearing about this though is 'there's no room in this league for someone like that' or some other form of that sentiment. this league has room for guys that are drug abusers, wife beaters, statutory rapists, etc. but no room for someone that is prejudiced? silver said that they hadn't acted on sterling before since there was no legal evidence (as he had not been successfully sued) but that is not the case to players that have pleaded guilty to their crimes.

this whole situation has set a weird precedent.

You can't compare the players to the owners. It's a weird precedent, yes, but it's life and you just gotta accept it. Owners are held to a MUCH higher standard than the players and honestly, they should be. Plus, the NBA is a private instution and these guys are treated like employees, and are consequently punished as employees if the crime deems it necessary.

The punishment is appropriate but people have become far too sensitive regarding the topic. He's an ignorant old **** who got caught saying ignorant, dumb things. If we freaked out every time somebody said something along those lines, he wouldn't be the only one to go and I'm sure some players would be out of the league as well.
