Outsiders can call MKG a bust all they want but all I know is that I like when he's on the court. He's a net positive and that's all that matters to me. He make our team better.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
Serious question...
Why do MKG shoot differently (worst) now in the NBA than he did in the NCAA and high school?

If you watch the following video from the 2:20 mark you would see that his shooting form was normal beforehand

Do anybody have a legitimate answer to why he went from a okay shooting form to a horrid one?

To be honest it baffles the f*ck outta me. He never shot like that at St. Pats. I would like a answer to this sh*t too.

From what I heard when he got to the NBA they started trying to fix that his elbow was out to wide. That is why he started cocking it in and it added that hitch.

The reason is cause Cliff attempted to change the natural shooting form MKG had. When you do that you put it in MKG's mind that his shot is bad, and that he cant shoot. So now instead of MKG just shooting the way he has all his life, whenever he attempts a jumper now he has to think "does it look ok when I shoot" or "ok...make sure the elbow is in, bend my wrist, focus...and follow through" All types of thoughts were put in his head thanks to Cliff's ingenius idea to try to change the shot. I have said from day one this was a terrible idea for this very reason.
So Cliff basically took our 2nd overall pick, f-cked his shot up worse, rendered him a offensive liabilty, and hurt his confidence....everything I said could happen from the preseason when the reports of Cliffs statements came out about his views on MKG. I'd rather we just trade him for someone who fits the system better than let bad coaching development ruin his career.
edit, look at the pic of the free throw hot in college and in the NBA. Not only is the form different, but look at the face. The tongue being out now is cause he' trying harder to shoot this way that we have him shoot. And what worse is we mesed up the shot and left it like that all season with the intentions of waiting until the offseason to correct it.

I wish someone would send this to Jordan and Cho and show them how "our helping him" has affected his game.

I dont understand why a team drafts a guy that they know needs work, but they dont invest in properly teaching him, epecially if your gonna give the guy millions of dollars. When were asked who we would like to draft 2 years ago, I was torn between MKG or Barnes. I said Barnes was more polished offensively as a scorer but MKG does alot more, he just has a ugly shot so I wanted MKG. I have no doubt Cliff wouldve loved Barnes for this team, cause he does everything Cliff wants. But youre right, we've had 2 different coaches for MKG and neither have really mentored him and properly put him into position to being successful on both offense and defense.

It's sad that we look at that video and think of how "good" his shot looked (relatively, of course), but even at the end of that video the commentator was noting his poor form. The hitch is there, but dammit it looks worse now. I don't get it.

Yeah... It must be Clifford's fault...

It is the fault of a coach either BRD or Dunlap. I don't remember if the shot changed before last year or before this year. Somebody tried to work on his shot and broke it worse. Hopefully Price can straighten him out and get it at least back to where it was if not better.

It started with Mark Price actually
Predraft, it was okay

Rookie season, it was okay, but more hitch due to uncertainty & lack of confidence (start @ 3:10 mark)

...but this year, his shot has been horrendous

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
DX video, shot discussed at about 2:20.

Prior to that he mentions "I can shoot, play defense, and I have a lot of heart." Obviously dead on on the last two and frankly, even the shot doesn't look that bad.
Another video from DX, this one the scouting video, shot addressed at 5:15. Watch that breakdown, quite interesting.

Interestingly notes that his elbow is too far OUT, whereas the main issue now is it's WAYYYY to far in.
Our own LamarMatic's video of his rookie campaign. Shot highlights start about 3:15 in. Hitch is still there, but elbow starts to come in.

Looks like the main focus under Dunlap was the elbow, and Kidd overcompensated. Price has noted the main focus this season was his footwork, so hopefully we see more strides by the time the season comes around. Remember, Price was hired in July, so hopefully MKG puts in the work with a full off-season with Mark.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
Whenever you attempt a big change in behavior that is ingrained in you it always get worse before it gets better. It takes patience and dedication to see it through. While most of our fanbase is clearly lacking in that regard, I hope both MKG and our front office are aware of that fact and are willing to see the process through to its fruition.

Re: OMFKG! The Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Thread II
I'll give Clifford credit for recognizing MKG's ball handling ability and giving him the green light to dribble the ball up the floor any time he grabs a rebound. MKG is a good ball handler, and I would like for them to allow him more freedom to create off the dribble next season. We've seen more of this ability in his rookie season under Dunlap in a offense more geared towards transition and getting out on the open floor. Hopefully Clifford expand on this next season as he add more to his gameplan

Dammit, you beat me to it KIA, though came to a different conclusion. You can see where the elbow improves in his rookie year but eventually goes too far. Price has mentioned that isn't a main focus this season, but instead most of the attention will be on foot-work. I have a hard time believing it'd actually get WORSE because of Price, but that's just speculation of course.

Watching videos of him shooting at Kentucky makes me want to bash my head in. Is it his own confidence or the coaching that screwed this up so bad? Maybe it's both, but the cats should have just accepted the fact that he was never going to be a good shooter and not try to tinker with his shot. Now it may be busted forever his confidence is totally ruined. There are plenty of guys in the league with bad form that you still have to guard for the corner 3.
